The mouse controls your ability to look around. If you left click however, a white border comes up and basically puts you in "puzzle mode".
If you are in puzzle mode, WASD won't do anything. Just right click to get out of puzzle mode and continue moving.
Push A to step left. D to step right.
S to walk backwards.
Moving your mouse will change where you're looking.
Left clicking will bring up a white border around your screen and enable you to interact with the world, mostly with puzzles, but will also prevent you from moving around.
Right clicking will back out of the 'left-click' mode.
Don't worry about settings. Run it on 'High' if you can and it runs smoothly, otherwise Medium. If that doesn't run smoothly, just go with 'Low'.
