Challenge achievement
So I was trying my best to play this game without any solutions, I spent almost 20 hours completing it and now it's like: "It was NEVER nessecary during the main game, but now you got to be really fast! What's that? You can't? Go flip yourself then pal." After 1 hour and 40 minutes of trying to get this achievement I'm amazingly frustrated. Thanks a lot, devs.:percy:
Apart from this ridiculous segment I was really enjoying the game. Too bad it didn't fit any other part.

It wouldn't be called the Challenge for nothing.

Its not that bad to have something timed. It's frustrating, but there are some few thinks that can help you with it. Like it's not as hard as it looks like.

Only 1 hour and 40 minutes? That really isn't that long. I stared at the shipwreck puzzle for over 5 hours with a month long break somewhere in between hahaha.

You can do it!

I have no problems with logic. I love to figure out difficult puzzles for hours. But here it's mostly luck-based then anything. And again: it's nothing like the main game so I don't get it's purpose.

That's understandable, it is very different.

Do you know various hints that help you? Like how to navigate the maze and know where the triangle panels are at?

MY GOD
It was 6:15 on my timer and I was stuck with the last pillar. I already gave up and decided to just randomly connect it, 'cause why not... AND IT WORKED. Man, I really hate this achievement. But it was refreshing.

And about hints - yes. I figured them out myself while being extremely frustrated. Who whould have guessed that certain puzzles are literally unsolvable after completing main game where there were none of such puzzles? That was cheap. And that maze map...

Ah, whatever. I did it. I'm gonna open my vodka bottle, I need to drink.

I think introducing a timed challenge into a game that up until then has no time constraints is actually quite clever. It uses a different part of your brain and requires you to really understand the rules and think on your feet. And it's also a genius anti-cheating mechanism; since you went through the game without looking up solutions you're fine, but imagine someone who looked at guides and then tried to complete the challenge. They'd have no chance. That's the real '♥♥♥♥ you' part about it!

Anyway, congrats on passing it. It's definitely not as luck-based as you might think, but you don't realize that until you complete it multiple times, if you ever decide to.

The impossible puzzles are there to test your deduction skills- to see if you know the square puzzles well enough to find one that doesn't quite work at first glance.

FWIW, it took me over 100 attempts to complete the challenge.

The main issue for me was that you get almost no practice on the triangle puzzles until you encounter the ones in the maze.
The way I looked at it was that it adds replay value to the game. Hop on for an hour or two, attempt the challenge, run around the island for a bit, do the same the next day. There are other things that can be worked toward competion if you catch my drift. Anyway, eventually I had just the right mixture of confidence and luck, and completed the challenge.

There are triangle puzzles scattered all over the island.

Timed areas no achievement for me then.. Struggled with one forest area until looking for a hint and found it was sound. great when you can hear properly.. got most eventually but cheated some.. now timed door on other forest... No dexterity cant cheat it so game over..Even with these issues its probably the best puzzle game this side of myst.

Since you are a fan of Myst (presumably), I've got to recommend Quern: Undying Thoughts. Best "Myst-like" I've ever played. I sat down and went through the game in one session lol. I couldn't stop playing.

*What timed door are you referring to? I don't remember any timed puzzles until The Challenege. Are you talking about the Treehouses?

Might I recommend:

https://www.giantbomb.com/videos/we-play-the-witness-with-jonathan-blow/2300-10990/

At about the 1hr mark they talk about the final challenge, you even get to see Jonathan Blow play through it. He explains why he put it in the game. Doesn't mean you'll enjoy playing it but at least he has a reason.
