Steam Workshop!
Seriously there used to be some sick mods for this game and now I can hardly find anything compatible and the stuff I do find isn't hosted anymore and returns 404's and dead links...
PLEASE put this in the workshop :D Maybe it won't be as popular as I'm hoping but....

Rune Classic for Steam Workshop!
runegamegoddess Sep 8, 2012 @ 3:15am
Go to "Rune-World.com" http://www.rune-world.com the New Human Head Studios Official Website for RUNE, HOV and Classic Rune for Steam. I am the Administrator there.

In the "Navigation" side bar under "Mods" http://rune-world.com/content/mods are listed many of the more popular ones created for the game and where to find them. If you check the Forums, you will see several new mods announced being made by the community.

The Modding community is still quite active. Under "Links" http://rune-world.com/content/links# I listed several Rune Resource sites where you will find new and old maps, mods, skins, mutators et.c. to download from. Especially Rune-Library .com for new&old stuff as well as Runeiverse.com. I have listed several RuneClans "Download" pages where you will more maps, skins, mutators, mods too.

After 12 years of being hosted by Take2/Rockstargames, the old RuneGame.com (formally the Official Human Head Studios Website for RUNE) server crashed after an old serious server bug popped up during a general server upgrade. The webmaster tried to fix the problem but couldn't and that site was shut down.

However, Human Head Studios did not want to leave the loyal Rune Community without an Official Website to go to. To announce new content through or ask questions/get answers or just hang out This time, they decided to create a new site and host it themselves. While being created, an Official Rune Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/RuneGame was created. This served as a springboard to announce the making and release of "Classic Rune 1.10 for Steam" at the time.

I invite you to join Rune-World.com. If you have any questions about Rune or HOV or Rune Classic for Steam, you can post them in the UNOFFICIAL "Technical Help" forum. Otherwise, Official tech support for Rune Classic itself is handled by "FrikaC" at runeclassicsupport@ninerealms.net

Sorry. Admittedly, that was a bit rude.
I have already been to those pages. When I first bought the game I followed the link to the new game website from the steam store page. There I found the links to the modding communities but truthfully 90% of the stuff on there is out of date and its basically a forum website, so everything is organized in 30 pages of catagories and groups - none of which related to version.
I had spent probably half an hour going through tons of pages and coming up with very little content that was compatible.
I guess its just frustrating because I had more fun with my old version of Rune and I hoped that steam would make modding and playing easier because of the resources steam has. My vision was friends list intergration, server browser intergration and workshop intergration... I've since realized the first two are probably a bit too much to ask and would probably require massive overhauls to the game, but had still hoped there could be one place to find up to date mods and easily install them with the click of a button...

Also, FYI the link in this paragraph is misformatted and does in fact result in a 404:
Also my Runegamegoddess "RuneMods" page for updated information, links and older mod "readme.txt" not listed here.

I understand. Not everything can be explained in short, small "bytes", though....but I tried in that first post.

Here is the link to my RunegameGoddess "Mods" page: http://runegamegoddess.rune2.net/RuneMods.htm

It has been a couple of months since my "RunegameGoddess" home page was last updated just before the Classic was released in June. I thought I had fixed everything then.... so thanks for letting me know. Between setting up Rune-World.com and helping run a family business, offline, has kept me from doing more until now.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rune-World.com is admittedly still a bit "rough" compared to what the older RuneGame.com was as an Official website. But this will improve with time.

Lately, I have been re-editing and transferring old RuneGame "Official Game" content into the new site. This way it will looks less like a Forums site and to operate more like the Official Website it should be.

The older site also went through a similar "teething stage" when it changed from a "sanctioned fansite" to the Official one in )ct. 2000. Then again, after Take2 absorbed Gathering of Developers in late 2004....who made the site hosted the server. GoD didn't tell Take2 about us, and I had to notify them about RuneGame being a separate hosted GoD website.

The Classic 1.10 is based on the RuneGold (Rune 1.07/HOV 1.06) with Original Rune 1.01 files added.

The Rune Coops, RuneBots, Contra and all the Mods Are compatible with the Classic. The 1.08 community made patch and Frozn's 1.09 Mod will work with it. All the skins, mutators et.c too.

The Steam version made Rune available to a wider, new game audience. Human Head isn't making much money off this. But that wasn't the point. They want to bring the franchise back after so many years. Rune was their first big full game and very close to their hearts.

Like you, A lot of older Rune Players have bought and are playing it.... but some are taking a "wait and see". By the way, they do read the forum posts if you want to post there.

At present, Rune Classic Steam users can enter regular non steam ones. Why getting the needed maps, mods, mutators et.c....is still a must. Just, non steam users can't enter Rune Classic Steam servers. This may change but don't know when.

I have been told the "Thieves Guild Mod Project" should be compatible with the Steam version.

What you are failing to understand is with steam workshop we wouldnt have to read 5 walls of text just to find something simple or remember some werid urls or search though outdated stuff.

The whole point of steam workshop is its easy to acess and use. Now before you shoot out another wall of text just think about what we have been saying
[MANX] ThaMunsta Oct 10, 2012 @ 5:24pm
Well said. Having it pop up in the Workshop would also give it some advertising and bring popularity to the game I think. Either way I'm guessing it won't happen.

Don't you guy think your being a bit unrealistic/unreasonable asking for an 11 year old game to be revamped to use steam workshop?? There are no old games using steam workshop, well team fortress... sorta, but that belongs to valve who just so happens to own steam.

It was only a year ago that the workshop was even released, and that was for a high profile game (Skyrim). And only a handful of NEW games have been added to the roster.

You guys act like all they have to do is flip a switch and make it happen.

Instead, maybe lobby for Rune 2 to have workshop, thats more reasonable.

Personally I’d be thrilled if some ambitious mod team did a graphic overhaul to improve texture quality and model detail (like what has been done with Quake 1), and I don’t care if I have to install it myself lol
