[FIX] Game crashes while loading serverlist
As others noticed, the domain 'runegame.com' expired, this brings some struggle to Rune Classic because if you browse 'runegame.com' now, you'll get an advertising site for domains instead.

In Rune there is an updateserver which informs your game about the current masterserver address / game news and other stuff.

It sends all the information your client needs to connect to the masterserver / news page, but since runegame.com expired, your game loads that ad instead which causes the client to crash because the answer is way too long and not in the correct format.

For some reason, which I don't understand, there are two entries for the updateserver in Rune Classics code.

First one is "rune-world.com" which would be correct and not causing problems.
Second one is "runegame.com" and heres the problem, perhaps they were high at Human Head Studios or tired or drunk, who knows.

Anyways I made up a fix for you guys which want to play multiplayer.

Two options:

  • Join server by command (easiest)
  • Edit the configuration file (easy but not the easiest :D)

Fix 1 (join server):
This one is simple, start the game and use these 2 commands in console (tilde key)

'netspeed 5000000' (to enable fast downloading)
'relaunch rune://81.169.237.168:9100 -VERS=107' (direct connect to server)

(enter the commands without ' ' )

Wait until it downloaded everything and you joined the server, restart the game and your game should be fixed.

Fix 2 (edit configuration files):
This is the manual way of doing it, the script running on the server at Fix 1 does exactly the same, just automated.

- Paste this to the end of your 'Rune.ini' file located at Rune/System

Enjoy multiplayer! :steamhappy:

The issue got fixed by HH, 'runegame.com' is working again.

I guess the only reason they noticed this is because their webhost expired a few days ago, causing humanhead.com and rune-world.com to be offline.
