i would think that you fight skirmish maps against each other. But i havn´t tried it yet

my entire angle of purchasing this game was solely on whether or not my friend and i could be central powers and entente in the campaign map against one another

They never advertised a multiplayer campaign. Hopefully it may come later but that's a guess. There is multiplayer skirmish only at the moment.

I've been playing against my nephew in MP and LOVE IT. It would help if the game encyclopedia could tell you score the most points economically. Throwing men into the grinder is not expensive at all, but air superiority is one way to rack up the points.
