what am i supposed to do early game as allies
im a tad confused. I was trying a campaign as the allies. After my first turn the germans show up in 3 areas with a butt load of reinforcements while i get no extra infantry back up. on turn 2 the result is a great loss on two tiles i can not avoid and the germans still seem to steadily be gaining a ton of infantry at their home tile while i get like 3.

is this supposed to just be completely unfair for you as allies early game or am i just missing something?

Go for supplies, build those supply hubs everywhere, push for Lille, await Germans in the centre and east. Keep pushing for Belgium. Kinda works for me, don't know about you.

You just dont know how to play. Just play and learn.

Or you want to get answers and spoil whole fun in learning and exploring the game? You can easily start attacking germans from turn 1. So keep playing and have fun trying to find out what to do.

Nah, half of the german troops are conscripts, which are trash. Find them and you can push there easy. The rest, just move from other fronts to have at least half as many units as the enemy and you should be good to go

i mean, its kind of hard to defend properly when all i get are the few reinforcements i start off with at the beginning of the campaign and the germans just magically put stacks of 8 to ten on their first turn, then i get no troops at all when my turn comes around then when i end turn the germans just hard invade the tiles i literally had no troops tor reinforce with. Its just kind of unfair i dont get extra troops on turn 2 in order to defend the areas the germans just loaded up on.

I just dont get why i dont get my first reinforcements until turn 3 (and even then i hardly get any troops) while the germans just get enough troops every turn they get to do full on offensives against me.

There are few things you can try out, even at very basic level:

1) Create a set of defensive lines that'll force enemy to go through the open ground each time they try to advance (two or three).

Here is a picture for reference:

https://irishstudies.sunygeneseoenglish.org/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2016/12/Trench-diagram.jpg

2) Don't make straight lines of trenches - it's better to create a defensive maze of straight lines and sunken salients so that even if one or two trenches are suppressed, there is yet another one or two firing on the enemy at all times.

3) Do keep "breaks" between the trenches, so that enemy can't run from the first trench to the last via firing or communication trenches.

You can make communication trenches to help reinforcements to arrive safer, but keep their exits somewhere where a few backline trenches can see. That way any enemy coming out will find himself under a hail of bullets.

4) You can put machineguns on your second or third line of defense, where enemy artillery shouldn't reach easily. Without artillery to suppress or destroy them, you should be killing enemies by the battalions.

5) You can make your infantry better right away with Improved Helmets (1 research point) and Improved Sight (2 research points). This should give you a slight edge when fending off enemy infantry when it comes into melee and when using trenches to fire.

6) You don't have to attack right away. Consider defending until you have some technologies researches that'll allow you to take over trenches easier.

7) You don't have to hold all the objectives in order to hold your ground when defending - just make sure you still have at least one objective (ideally your HQ) to avoid a Sweep, meaning that you will still hold your region, just at cost of gold and National Will.

@PussNuggets

Here you cant just defend everything properly. Its okey to take defeats. Just try avoid major defeats and you are going be fine. ;) Make your own doomstack and have fun.

On a strategic level, you’re probably suffering due to poor army distribution - the AI usually attacks with 8-10 corps, so defending with 2-3 corps would be very difficult, especially if the region does not contain a supply depot.
RainbowPig Apr 8, 2023 @ 12:06pm
2-3 corps per tile you're defending is enough, even on elite, so long as you have the supply which is why you might want the 3rd corp. Supply depot up on tiles you're defending and the enemy is pushing

this is not a ground war. this is an a artillery war. supply= shells= more shells= victory. don't think of supplies as manpower. think of supply as shells. you can force troops out of there trenches be heavy shelling alone. in feb-1914 i had 2000 supply in most battles. build storage depot everywhere. more supply =shell. bleed them out with fire power.

the AI got reinforcement because the AI always go for logistic tree first. Logistic tree has a few nodes that grant 6 extra stacks of troops if I remember correctly.
