Is light artillery and inf really all you need ?
I stopped playing the game because i feel like you don't need to spend your supply on airbust shell, mg placement etc..
Like all you need is suppression from light artillery and inf.

when you attack, the AI connects all trench, once you secure the first layer, you can stay inside trenchs and melee your way towards all capture points. In defense i barely connects trenchs so I can shoot ennemy troops when they move, or even better, i put troops in forest and the IA does nothing about it. You can kill an all army with 5 troops hidding in forest.

Does the game gives you more than this as the war progresses ?

Tanks and planes are coming later on in the war, which can change the way you play a battle, especially tanks. But artillery still will be key. It is WW1 after all. Artiellry did cost the most lives in this war and without artillery nothing could be done. Basically the stormtrooper tactic and the tanks were somewhat of a gamechanger and latter is it also in the game, if you have a decent number of heavy tanks.

Sure, you could probably manage like that. But I find having a mix of light and heavy artillery is preferable. Light artillery does negligible damage to infantry in trenches, so even if it helps you get your infantry into the trench, it will fight the melee on equal terms. With heavy artillery, you suppress the enemy and also do damage, giving your own infantry an edge when it goes down into the trenches. Heavy artillery for bombarding the trench you're assaulting, light artillery for suppressing other positions that could shoot you up on the way.

On Elite this actually finally stops working because you will be trading unfavorably in trench combat against equal troops, and the constant stream of reinforcements will stall you until time runs out.

It kinda suck's that the more expensive tech just isnt very good, gas could be so much better, same with flamethrowers and siege artillery, this is a cool game but they missed the mark a bit, its good but it could have been something unbelievably better.

i would say light + inf is the slowest and safest way to play, much funner to mix stuff in. i believe light arty breeds passivity.

Well there's some irony there. Historically Flamers, Siege Artillery and Gas weren't the deadlock breaking tools they were hoped to be.

But mechanically, I am hoping to see them have their uses (for their costs) but my experience is all early war yet.:raven:

After 2-3 battles in the same province, AI transforms its part of the map into a maze of trenches, and the battle becomes series of tranche melee combats, so you often will not have enough time to clear all the points before timer ends.
And there comes siege artilerry to destroy links between traches and kinda isolate every point and gas shells to get enemies out of their tranches and cut your losses.

About airbust shells - thay are good for defence, but way to expensive:(
