Trench mapper and discussions of scale
Hi all. I thought I should share an amazing tool that really makes you think of the scale of the great war.

https://www.westernfrontassociation.com/trenchmapper-public/

If you look at many of the famous salients (Ypres, Verdun, St Michel) and you're looking at a ~20mile square area. Its in these areas that you concentrate your guns, and build mutually supporting defense systems.

If you ask me this game does a great job with the large scale war (big map view) and the small scale (company scale) battles. But the scale at which you would set up defenses of salients is not currently in the scope of the game. Do you think we will every be able to mod this game to make salient scale management of attacks/defenses?

the game's handling of terrain elevation makes it hard.

The way it works is terrain never prevents projectiles from reaching, however it can block LOS of infantry units. which makes it technically possible to make it matter but next to impossible when balloons etc are a thing.

Idk if i'd say the game does a good job with company-scale battles personally, however i expect if a mapping tool ever drops (which i suspect, after all it's the next logical step after workshop support and petyroglyph has shared mapping tools in the past) we'll see a lot of bigger maps made by the community.

Which would be neat, i think the game would benefit from them.
