F.E.A.R Windowed Mode
Ok, since it seems no one else has left this information anywhere on here...
In order to run the game in windowed mode you should add the following to the launch options "+windowed 1". (without the quotation marks, as always)

Good luck, have fun, don't die.

How does windowed mode affect performance?
Asaram 6 OCT 2014 a las 12:10 p. m.
The requirements are so low that shouldn't be much of an issue. If you are running on a low-end machine though, something old, I couldn't say. Haven't done any testing.
My apologies.

THANKS YOU! - this actually works -- ty so much :T,

had a lil trouble with the game glitching out

You're welcome. As for the glitching you can minimize it by running the game in compatibility mode for XP. It might not eliminate all your issues but the ones related to it being windowed ought to be resolved.

I'd like to provide something more:
You can also setup the resolution for the windowed mode in the launch options. You might want to know this for the mission packs, which don't provide 16:9 resolutions for whatever reason from within the menu settings.

Examples:

540p windowed:
+windowed 1 +ScreenWidth 960 +ScreenHeight 540

720p windowed
+windowed 1 +ScreenWidth 1280 +ScreenHeight 720

900p windowed:
+windowed 1 +ScreenWidth 1600 +ScreenHeight 900

1080p windowed:
+windowed 1 +ScreenWidth 1280 +ScreenHeight 720

Thoughts on this:
1) If you did not run the game before adding this to the launch options, the game might crash with an error message the first time, but it will probably run fine on the second try. It did so, for me.

2) You can change the performance settings in the menu, tho changing the graphics performance settings will force the game to another resolution. But thats not big problem, as restarting the game will change the resolution back to whatever you set in the launch options, while still retaining the graphics performance settings you chose before.

Last one should be:

1080p windowed:
+windowed 1 +ScreenWidth 1920 +ScreenHeight 1080

Sorry to necro the thread, but for anyone who ends up here via an internet search trying to fix problems with the game...

Don't use "+windowed 1", that's a bordered window.

Use "+windowed 2" which is borderless windowed mode.

You can also set the resolution this way, or go to the config file in C:\Users\Public\Documents\Monolith\F.E.A.R and edit it there.

I recently had troubles getting it to run due to crashes when I adjusted any of the graphics options, including screen resolution, and setting it to borderless windowed mode fixed my problems.

The +windowed 2 command still shows the border at the top for me. Any ideas?

Use Borderless Gaming app. It's free on GitHub.

I don't understand. What file am I supposed to add the "+windowed 1" ?
There is a "gamecfg.txt" and an "enginemsg.txt" But base on what they have inside they don't seem to be the correct files
Asaram 6 SEP 2020 a las 9:28 p. m.
Right click the Fear.exe file, choose properties. Under launch options you should add that line.

Thanks! It worked
