Low FPS in FEAR. Already tried the "Disable HID-compliant" fix
I've redownloaded FEAR on my PC yesterday, and today when I tried to play, I get anywhere from 32FPS-45FPS. This does not make sense, as I have:
GTX 670
AMD 8350 @ 4.0Ghz
8GB RAM
Windows 8 Pro 64-bit

I posted elsewhere, and no one seems to know an answer. I've tried disabling HID-compliants in the Device Manager, and I don't even have any Logitech mice or keyboards. It didn't work anyway.
I've tried limiting to one core. Didn't work
I've tried disabling Vsync. Didn't work
I've tried disabling threaded Optimization. Didn't work.

The thing is, one of the things I did seemed to work, but when I get to a new chapter of the game, the FPS goes back down to around 40, and not just that, but it's stuttering at 40FPS. It also used to lower the FPS everytime it autosaved, but I seemed to have gotten around that by enabling Force Restart in the game options to clear video memory, but that didn't fix for when I enter a new chapter.

Currently, I'm at the part where you jump out of the window to escape Alma, and now my frame rate is stuck at 40FPS, no matter what I do. Nothing that seemed to fix it before is working anymore.

Can you borrow a friends card? Just to narrow down the problem?
Also, I'd try playing on Win7 if you can, several of the problems I've seen which are similar to yours, tend to vanish on a different OS.

Neither of those options is really possible. I'm the only real dedicated PC gamer out of a group of console gamer and laptop owning friends. Also I don't own Windows 7, and don't have the time or money to install or try a new OS just for one game. I love FEAR, but I don't live it that much

I salute you, fellow PC gamer.

How 'bout trying older gpu drivers?

try playing it on minimu settings and turning off all the aa and stuff on the nvidia controll panel

I've tried that. I've actually had some pretty large amount of help on the site The Escapist, but nothing seems to have fully solved the problem

Sorry to re-bump this thread.

I am in the same boat as you. I have tried all the fixes that you mentioned above and none of them work for me!

My game runs perfectly with everything fully maxed until it hits a checkpoint, then the FPS suddenly drops to almost nothing. Lowering settings nothing, and after restarting the game it ran great...until the very next checkpoint, then it did it again.

Did you try using that setting under the Performance or Video options or whatever? The one that resets the video memory after every checkpoint, or some such? Maybe that will help.

I didn't have any problems running the game at max all the way through. Too bad the game is essentially shooting one kind if enemy in an office for 8 hours. Very overrated game (the singleplayer, anyway).

I already had that on, and turning it off didnt do anything either. I played a little more of it and I realized its not checkpoints that kill it, its any time some kind of physics thing triggers, like early on when you hit a switch to move a big crate thats on a crane thing, the fps dies and never recovers.

edit: Actually at this point I have no idea what triggers the drop, it just sort of happens randomly. First time it happened was at a checkpoint, second it was activating a crane, and this time it just happened as I was walking through an area. Maybe autosaves causing it? I don't know anymore.

edit 2: wow I'm an idiot i tried everything but completely forgot to try the the hid-compliant thing in the first place and now it works after i did that.

It seems random for me. I've loaded a game and just stood still...I watched the FPS drop. :(

Yep, same thing happened to me. Playing the game, everything fine. Then Quit and come back and the FPS is unplayable.
