No Sound During Menus or Game
I just bought the original F.E.A.R game and it started up fine. I had sound during the intro, but when I got to the menu there was no sound. I let the cut scene at the beginning play and there was no sound there either. I tried validating files and reinstalling. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here are my specs:

Intel Core i5-3350P 3.1GHz Quad-Core Processor

Gigabyte GA-Z77-DS3H ATX LGA1155 Motherboard

ZOTAC ZT-50303-10M GeForce GTX 560 Ti (Fermi) 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video Card

Tascam US-122MKll (I'm running my sound through this)

Try launching config.exe, check the boxes for Disable Sound and Disable Music. Save. Then uncheck the boxes. Save again. That fixed it for me. Someone else noted that the boxeswere already checked with the default installation.

If you are having conversation problems, try turning off Hardware acceleration on sound. That fixed it for me.

If You are missing gun shot sounds, character voices etc. that's what I did:
In the main menu->options->performance->advanced computer options->sound (I changed value to maximum) save settings and You are good to go, atleast I was..

EDIT: WMFADist.exe did nothing for me and when I unpacked it with WinRAR and pasted the acm file in there to system 32, nothing.

in your FEAR folder ther is a file: WMFadist
1. try to install it, but it propably wont work...
2. open the file WMFadist in winrar or 7zip
3. copy l3codeca.acm
4. paste it in the Fear directory
5. paste it in C:\Windows\System32

have fun dude

You have to put it in the fear directory as well. if you play the addons, it also has to be in the folders of each addon (XP1 and/or XP2)

What do you mean by the FEAR directory? Where is it located?

Hi mate i had the same problem after trying to play it today. I found that the game would not run under anythig but stereo sound.

Right click the speaker Icon
> playback devices
> select the speakers
> configure
> stereo
> next
> next
> finish

Heypresto, it works! You might also have to disable it in any fancy soundcard drivers!

Hey everyone, many thanks to Action2000, didn't even have to put l3codeca.acm file in sys32 directory, just to FEAR directory. Btw sound worked fine before the 'upgrade' to Win10 even without the file. Oh and one more thing, this fix applies to non-Steam versions of the game as well.

Have a great day !
