Why does Alma hate you so much?
Sure, sometimes she blows up something you don't like, but then she sends her spooky demons to murder you, or knocks you off a ladder for some reason. My two guesses are that she's either on her period, or it's a side effect of pregnancy (Turns out she's pregnant in FEAR 3, right?). Is it ever explained why she does this? I guess it might have something to do with the fact that she lives in a nightmare or something, and y'know, they sort of made her pregnant at 8, put her in a coma and forced her to give birth, but you're still her son, and it seems she was pretty emotional in that flashback at the end of the game.

Various ways of looking at it, I don't think she necessarily hates you as such, but they locked her away in the vault where she was supposed to be unconscious, but it turns out she was very much conscious and left by herself for years to gradually go insane in that dungeon. Sometimes when you see her coming towards you, it is like she is just trying to get to you to hug you or something, but her psychic signature is so strong that this is fatal to you. On the other hand, although you are her son and no doubt she has some affinity for you, you are still a direct result of the experiments that were performed on her by Armacham. This might be why she helps you in some situations, because she hates ATC's actions more than she hates what you represent.

Makes sense, but damn, the FEAR discussions are desolate. :\

I've not played FEAR 2 or 3 so maybe there's facts I don't know but I got the impression she was protecting you.
There were many moments in the base game and the expansions where she clears rooms for you, moments were she probably saves you from getting shot etc.
I could of also swore at one point in the vault you can hear her whisper "You're safe here with me". Like I said, I haven't played the other games so I may be making no sense, it's just how I saw it.

My main problem is that she keeps on sending spooky demons against you and pranking you for no explained reason, even though at other segments of the game she does indeed seem to be trying to protect you.

I don't understand the demons. In my opinion the game could have done without them, those sections weren't challenging or really contextual to the story.

Are you sure the demons are coming from Alma? I know there are scenes where Fettel sends demons at you, maybe they are from him. Also there are two Almas, perhaps representing her alternate frames of mind, one seeing you as just representing everything that has been done to her at Armacham, and the other seeing you more as her child and someone who is there to set her free.

I actually felt that Alma tries to reunite with the pointman, however because of her instable emotional state and strong psychic signature this has adverse effects on pointman.

She's a sociopath

The Demons are not sent by Alma, they are produced by her deep hatred for the Corporation that experimented on her and her extreme hatred of her father, she can't stop them they are a side effect of her extreme psychic powers (she has no control over them).

As for her hatred for point man, she has none. She has a hatred for the world becuase her powers made her increasingly distant from society and the experiments did not help soften her up either. She is consistently annoyed by point mans attempts to stop her but does not hate him. If you play the games further you will learn her true intentions with Fettel and her ultimate fate, as for pregnacy in in F.E.A.R 3 she rapes the protagnoist from F.E.A.R 2 in order to create a more powerful psychic to help her with her revenge scheme.

TL;DR She doesn't hate point man but would rather he helps her than impede her efforts hence the reason she uses Fettel to keep him busy. If she hated Point Man she could easily kill him as her powers are proven to exceed any capability Point Man has. She prefers to direct all her effort in killing those responsible for the expermintation, Point Man just gets in the way.

@Madafudger

Your point about Fettel is not correct; Alma uses Fettel to try and free herself from the vault. This becomes apparant in the way she deals with Fettel after Dr. Wade set her free, i.e. having Point Man eliminate him.

In FEAR 2 it becomes fairly clear that Alma does want to kill everybody and everybody else, too. She spares Fettel and Pointman because they're both her children, and she feels attached to them both. It's my opinion that the real world and the Almaverse are inseparable after Harlan releases her from the vault. So everything that happens after that takes place in a certain limbo that exists equally in the player-character's perspective and in reality. Alma doesn't hate Pointman. After all, she knows who you are.

She's just sexually frustrated.

alma doesn't hate you, but you are there trying to kill her other son and stop her so.....she needs to push you back in any way she can.

In addition to what some of the other posters have said, Alma doesn't seem to consciously realize Point Man's her son until near the end of the game, which might explain some of her hostility. The rest is likely just an accidental result of her powers...IIRC some of the audio logs suggest Alma never really had control of her abilities and would lash out and hurt people without meaning to.

Plus, Alma doesn't have much of an issue using her second son (Fettel) as a puppet in her own plans. If her firstborn's getting in the way of her "kill them all" crusade, why not bump him out of the way?

Though you could also make the argument that some of the scares/pranks/"oops I sent you flying out a window" scenes involving child!Alma don't really ring of someone trying to kill you. Sometimes it feels more like she's just reaching out, or even trying to play a game with you--like a child would--not understanding that she's hurting/scaring you in the process.

Also, some quick lore corrections:

Alma was put in the Vault, and into a coma, at 8. Her first son was born when she was 15.

And yes, she's pregnant in FEAR 3, but that's because she rapes Michael Becket at the end of FEAR 2. (Although how exactly a ghost gets pregnant is another argument for another time.) She isn't pregnant during the events of FEAR 1.

I think it's because of all the times you forgot her birthday, and other applicable life events. :)
