F.E.A.R.

F.E.A.R.

Extraction point is the best F.E.A.R. game
IMHO, of course.

I just wanted to share this since I decided to revisit the original for the first time in 10 years after playing a bit for FEAR 3 coop with my buddy who never played any game of the series and asked whether or not the old ones are worth getting.

Having never played neither Extraction Point nor Perseus Mandate, I decided to try them instead of replaying the original which I found fun but very repetitive.

And... WOW did I not expect what I got. I thought it was the nostalgia factor kicking in, but now after finishing EP and PM and moving on back to the original I have to say that Extraction Point is better in every possible way. So much so that I feel sad for it not being canon.

There's more location variety, more open spaces, more interesting encounters, the new weapons and enemies don't feel tacked on, and the firefights are significantly more intense. Also the scare sequences are surprisingly good. Perseus Mandate wasn't bad but it didn't impress me nearly as much, and the original is giving me the same feeling of 'yeah this is good but too repetitive'.

To me Extraction Point was a much better sequel than FEAR 2 ever was. Singleplayer-wise, EP is the pinnacle of the series.
Just wanted to share because of how overwhelmed i was with this expansion's quality.

Extraction Point is very good and quite challenging. I thought the last 30 minutes were totally incredible, although the very last fight is a little disappointing somehow.

I still like the original FEAR most of all but EP is excellent. I've never finished PM because it's too different and too boring.

despite PM being noticably less interesting than its predecessor, I still recommend you to finish it because it gets quite interesting and intense near the end.

as for the final battle of EP - it doesn't really matter to me in the light of everything else in this expansion

EP is way too short to ever be as good as the FEAR 1+2 main games.

Well it's an expansion pack that never claimed to be as long as the original. Not to mention the original seems to overstay its welcome in my eyes, making the game a bit monotonous

go play perseus mandate on extreme. You might be ripping your hairs out.

I agree. I wish warner bros. would have let timegate studio make f.e.a.r 3 becuase they had a very good grasp of what made f.e.a.r good. In fact, I think they did a lot better than monolith did with project origins to be honest.

Perseus is probably the hardest of the bunch, but this has more to do with the mercenaries being insanely more powerful than the clone soldiers. If we talk fun factor and diversity, I vote for EP.

BIG necro (but i'm 31 years old so not that much:) but I feel exactly the same way. Having replayed through Fear 1 very recently (unlike you I played them all at release) I found it overrated.
While Extraction Point was short, it was an overall great game and it aged better than the other two games.

My only gripe about EP is -- Spoiler -- reviving Fettel. Which is completely incoherent. Other than that, solid story, great scary scenes, and epic new content.

Here I thought Timegate got it right the second time around with Perseus Mandate! Playing someone that wasn't Point Man was a treat, and it wasn't trying quite so hard to be as spooky as EP was. I liked that your character had some similar paranormal quirks as Point Man without being, for lack of better descriptor, the chosen one. He was just another soldier (or officer, can't remember) with a little something extra, someone a few steps into the gap between common mooks and Point Man.

The ending to Perseus Mandate was really satisfying, too. Ends on a good note, wraps up the story arc without impeding on the main plot. It's conclusive, there's closure. It made me feel some things. EP just kind of frustrated me.
