Best resolution and settings?
I bought this game years and years ago and finally decided to play it. What is the best resolution and settings to make the graphics as nice as possible? thanks!

Depends on your rig. I would go with whatever your monitor's native resolution is, even if it isn't one of the ones that is marked as optimised. Alternatively, some smaller multiple of your native, like if you have a 4K monitor 3840 x 2160 you could go with 1920 x 1080. Just remember the higher resolution, the smaller the text and HUD will appear. As for settings, you should be able to crank them all the way with a modern rig.

Yeah. I just watched the intro, and the txt was kind of small.
Really not worried with my rig lol.

Machine ASUS
Operating System Microsoft Windows 10 Famille (64-bit)
Memory 16 GB
Processor 12th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-12600
Motherboard ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. - PRIME H670-PLUS D4
Video Cards NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060

My screen is an ASUS MZ27AQ.
Their website mention True Resolution : 2560x1440
Would you suggest I play it in 2560x1440? I think Im on 1680 x 1024 or something like that at the moment. Im not even sure 2560x1440 is an option in the game.

Thanks for your help

Yes, you could almost run Crysis with that rig.
Try launching using the config.exe in the program folder, I think it has resolutions that might not be in the game menu.
1680 x 1024 probably doesn't look very sharp and it will be stretched out a bit for the different aspect ratio. If 2560 x 1440 isn't available, look for 1280 x 720. It's a lower resolution but it might look better.

thanks.
I'll try 2560 x 1440 and 1280 x 720 first.

Any resolution should be possible except perhaps ultrawide 21:9 ones, not sure. Can't see why it wouldn't be supported by the game though. The best resolution is your desktop native one of course. You'd need to tweak the config file manually since it's an old game and not every resolution that is technically available might be present in the game's options. The file is called "settings.cfg" and is located in "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Monolith Productions\FEAR". There's a shortcut to that directory in the game folder: "Shortcut to User directory". Just click it. You're looking for "ScreenWidth" "2560" and "ScreenHeight" "1440". Just tweak those accordingly. I'm on 1440p as well.
As for smaller UI on higher resolutions, there's a mod to address that and make the UI and subtitles bigger.
You can also read this article, it has all the necessary info: https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/F.E.A.R.

Im gonna try that today. I was able to select 2540 x 1440 but something seems off. like clunky when I move around or try to aim during combat. I had to raise the mouse sensitivity to the max in order the get decent aiming (which I never do in other FPS),

I went to the file and it's already setup as 2540x1440:
"GammaB" "1.000000"
"GammaG" "1.000000"
"GammaR" "1.000000"
"BitDepth" "32"
"HardwareCursor" "1.000000"
"ScreenWidth" "2560"
"VSyncOnFlip" "0.000000"
"DeviceName" "\\.\DISPLAY5"
"ScreenHeight" "1440"
"RestartRenderBetweenMaps" "0.000000"

Cool then. I'd also suggest to apply the HID fix as well as to lock the framerate at 60 FPS to avoid high FPS related issues. The HID fix you can find in the pinned thread here.
