HID Compliant Devices Framerate Issue
I've seen some previous posts about this, and I have to hope I am not the only one with this problem. F.E.A.R has a problem. Currently I cannot be in the main menu for more than a minute before the framerate lowers down to 10 and navigating the menus is a chore at 10fps, playing? Unplayable. This seemingly random framerate drop and lag is apparently caused by HID Complicant Devices, IE Keyboard and Mouse. Disabling them apparently fixes it. It has to do with the engine or something, apparently condemned has the same problem, but I have not tested that. Logitech devices seem to be the main ones affected. The Problem? My Mouse and Keyboard are both Logitech, a Logitech G510s keyboard. If I disable these devices, guess what? I have no mouse and keyboard, so playing is impossible. I find it odd because I WAS able to play F.E.A.R sometime ago, now it appears I am facing the HID Compliant Device problem. Is there anyway to get this game to work properly without basically making my computer mouse and keyboard free?

There should be several items in the HID compliant listing and it shouldn't be necessary to disable all of them. Make a note of which ones cause the mouse and keyboard to stop working and only disable the remaining ones. With some trial and error re-enabling items, I found there were two that were causing the problem for me.

So far here are the devices in question.

All 3 of the keyboard options do not have a disable option when right clicked.

The bottom HID compliant mouse IS disable-able, however it does nothing. When the top one is disabled my mouse does not function. Thus you see the problem.

I don't think it is those ones. If you go further up the list in the device manager, there should be a group called "human interface devices" and I think it is some of those ones that are the problem. On mine they are called "hid-compliant vendor-defined device".

I see them, I am just unsure of which ones I should start turning off honestly.

Controller one isn't the problem as I can just unplug that one.

I had this same problem, and disabling the 4 "hid-compliant vendor-defined devices" fixed it. Under the "Human Interface Devices" section. Many thanks to Species1571 for the help.

Before disabling them, I had 7 FPS in menus and gameplay, regardless of settings. After disabling only those four, it's 60 FPS with max resolution and settings. There are some brief frame drops when loading new areas but otherwise it's very smooth. Classic game!

I do not have the vendor-defined ones, which ones should I disable?

I would disable the 6 hid compliant devices and see if it fixes the problem. If so, you can start enabling them one by one until you identify which ones are the source.

Thank you both very much, following Species1571's advice I disabled all 6 of them and it worked PERFECTLY, the problem before is I was using the Keyboard and Mouse tabs to disable them, and not the HID interface devices tray itself. Thank you both very much, now to enjoy some F.E.A.R.

right-click on the start button and select device manager.

For those thast don't have Device Manager on their start button. Go to control panel and click Device Manager.

I can confirm that Species1571's advice still works. Wonderful, no mouse or keyboard issues, all is good and the game plays perfectly now.
