That being said, F.E.A.R 1 and Extraction Point still are some of the best FPS experiences ever made.
Perseus Mandate doesn't work so well, it felt rushed, the visual quality is lower than 1 and EP, and the A.I doesn't seem as clever.
F.E.A.R 2, as others have said, is pretty good. It suffers from following a few FPS trends of the time which drags some of the gameplay down, and there's a few strange design decisions, like putting glowing lights on everything, but overall it's still fun.
F.3.A.R on the other hand is terrible, and best avoided so as to not taint your experience of the series. It flopped so hard it ended the franchise, and it's plot ruins the narrative the previous games built up.
The best order to play them in is F.E.A.R 1 - Extraction Point - F.E.A.R 2 - Reborn - stop.
While Extraction Point is non-canon, it's disconnected enough from the events of F.E.A.R 2 that it could be considered as an alternate extended ending to the original.
Once all those are done, and if you're really itching for more spooky shooting, then play Perseus Mandate and F.3.A.R, but go in to those with low expectations.
As for the installation, I believe Extraction Point and Perseus Mandate require the original F.E.A.R installed in order to function, and I think (don't quote me on that) that they install in to the same folder, meaning while they show as taking 17gb each, they will actually take less if the original F.E.A.R is already installed.
