A weird, specific question about using Q and E to peek around corners.
I'm asking because i've played with controller most of my life and I'm much older with little experience with keyboard and mouse.

I don't feel comfortable using Q & E to peek around corners because I feel clumsy trying to peek and move at the same time.

So if anyone out there has the energy to explain what fingers they use when peeking/looking around corners: much appreciated.

PS I'm almost done with main game and loving it. I didn't grasp story much but enjoying the shooting. Is the DLC worth it?

i focus on one side's strafe + lean keys and sorta neglect other directions.
when going left, index on strafe and middle on lean
same for right, but here you have the convenience of the ring finger reaching other movement keys comfortably.

i guess the delicate part is rapidly switching between this configuration and normal wasding, especially when using left keys. if you really cannot do so fast enough, you must then adjust your peeking flawlessly so you are barely visible when leaning and completely hidden when in normal position.
that said, slowmotion, health kits and boosters save you time to react when being lit up. always have the formers' key close to wasd. if you need clues, shift or ctrl is reached by your pinky; alt, x, c, or v are close to your thumb.

extraction point and permeus mandate -the two dlcs- are a bit like day and night.
former ramps up everything gameplay-wise, including the difficulty. it also has more varied environments. some consider it the best of fear.
latter is a mixed bag; gameplay ranges from average to a chore compared to the other two campaigns, and it is overall uglier despite being released last.

both's stories are honestly not considered very good, but that never really was fear's strength to begin with, just a pretext for the game.

Thx. I just finished permeus and really enjoyed it. I'll play extraction point for sure. Great game.

I use my ring finger for Q and middle finger for E. It does take some time to get used to, but I've been playing tactical shooters like Rainbow Six 3 for years and am used to it. I will say I don't lean while moving as much as I find a wall that I can't fully see around without lean, apply lean, then can see around it :) If I do move while leaning, it'll just be to pull into cover with little taps on A or D

I personally liked FEAR's story. I've played through the SP dozens of times now though, and you probably won't pick up on it your first time, but that's pretty normal since usually you're just jumping at the surprises (if you're playing it properly -- volume on max, in a dark room ;). Most of the details come from listening to the blinking red answering machines you find in offices around the map, and you kind of piece together the clues of what's happening from the messages certain characters leave.
Ignore the expansions as part of this "bundle" and go straight for FEAR 2 Project Origin (then skip 3 entirely lol).

There was a bit of controversy when FEAR was first released, but it was another case of the publisher (WB) owning the IP of the developer (Monolith) and using it to make a bunch of non-canon spinoffs (PM, EP, and *barf* F3AR). Some people like the WB-spinoffs, I personally think the level of quality, gameplay and storywise, is definitely lower in those than in the Monolith games (which are the original FEAR, FEAR 2: Project Origin and the Reborn DLC).

If you just want more FEAR gameplay, then the expansions in this pack are pretty good for that. I've played them all and enjoyed them, but none kept me coming back over and over like the Monolith games. On the other hand, FEAR 3 is just a ♥♥♥♥ game IMO and completely butchers the storyline beyond repair (so I choose to ignore its existence, though if you want a co op shooter its decent?)
