Game won't launch, black screen, Windows 10
I had the game up and running on Windows 10 no problem before.
But now when I launch the game I get a black screen with the blue rotating mouse curser.
Anyone had similar issues? how did you resolve it if any?

Hey, buddy. I couldn't even get it to run on my system with a 1080ti on Windows 10. It would stop on the Sierra logo. Here's what fixed it for me. Give it a shot. I hope it works. https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/789-directinput-fps-fix/

I'm running the game on my laptop with Core i7 7700 and 1060 ti

You said you had it running before. Was it running on the exact same system that you have now?

Hi Yes,
This very same system. I was playing it a couple weeks ago...
Am wondering now if any of the Windows 10 updates would have caused the crash issue or not...

I have solved the issue, so while setting the compatibilty to Window XP service Pack 2,
I also need to check and "disable fullscreen optimizations" in the compatibility tab.
The game now starts no problem and runs very smoothly.

yeah FEAR needs a different color mode than regular Windows 7 and after, which probably isnt available at all anymore on Win8/10

my problem is that the game starts but goes to black screen and my mouse has a loading icon. and everything is zoomed in a lot. i have downloaded the file and extracted it and it didn't work. i did the compatibility troubleshooting for window xp and that didn't change anything. IDK what else to do

I just got it and have had issues running it. Win 10 with the 1050 Ti. Will try it with compatibility mode as well as disabling the fullscreen optimizations under the compatibility menu.

OS: Windows 10
GPU: GTX 1080

Running the game exe with compatibility mode "Windows XP (Service Pack 2)" just fixes the black screen problem for me.

And I can run the game a long time ago too.

I hope someone can help. I had the same issue, black screen, large blue loading circle. I then tried the compatibility mode, and same problem, but now the loading circle goes away and just a black screen, but I see my resolution is lowered before I see the black screen.

Now I can hit esc and it exits the black screen, though. Before I had to restart the PC.

I managed to get it working, but after a short while the game lags. In case anyone is wondering, I went to compatibility and I only disabled full screen optimization. That worked. If I also switch to windows xp, it doesn't work. It does work on Vista, though. No matter what though, it runs butter smooth for like a minute then it gets choppy.

EDIT: I fixed the lag. Just unplug your logitec mouse then plug it back in. If you have a keyboard unplug it as well. You must do this while the game is running. Then it runs smoothly.
