I've used it and had no problems. But I guess it is technically a "grey market" site.
https://www.gog.com/game/fear_platinum
Based off the review.co rating, it seems legit. Aren't stolen keys were usually revoked? I could be wrong, but I've never actually heard a complaint.
We sure they're not just getting them from users unloading unwanted games from bundles? That is how Indiegala and Steam trading works, only without real money.
You get it DRM-free there and can install it without Steam even necessary.
The install files can be downloaded from everywhere you can log into your GOG account.
I would never use a grey market site
I got this game on a Steam sale for a couple of euro
Good for you, but now it's almost sixty bucks on Steam and if you live in the US you have to buy it bundled with the sequels the publishers know everybody despises. Grey market sites supposedly cut publishers out of a sale, but in this case that would probably be justified. If someone legally sells an extra key over a reputable site I don't see the issue.
As I said, anywhere but Steam.
It's still no shame to get it DRM-free at GOG.
I bought it many years ago on Steam, when it was still not bundled and offered alone.
So luckily I don't have to make the decision where I buy it anymore.
Yet I definitely won't buy the bundled edition.
I bought all games of this franchise alone. And also played all of them.
Some people say the first is the best one, but according difficulty the later ones are way harder.
Trustworthy sites list and filter games by region. Besides you need a VPN to activate region-locked codes. Codes just don't automatically activate on Steam. The IP address has to match up with your country. If you are selling to someone in the same region it isn't "stolen."
Grey-market sites should be treated with caution. I bet you that most F.E.A.R keys there are from past Humble (an authorised, trustworthy reseller) Bundles, hence their cheap price. The origin of keys sold on such sites are sometimes more dubious, to say the least.
Yeah, most are dodgy. I don't want to give the wrong idea that third-party sites are all safe. I only suggested it since Steam and WB are screwing people. 55 bucks for a 13-year-old game and two bad sequels is bs.
Supposedly FEAR was on sale at some place called Fanatical for a similiar price, but I never heard of that site. It would be nice to have a list of legit sites here on Steam, but Steam would probably just remove it.
Nah, as long as they're authorised resellers, nothing get's removed. Listing sites like for example humble.com, gamesplanet.com or even gog.com (8 bucks for F.E.A.R. + DRM-free, cheaper during sales) is fine. They will almost never beat or match grey market prices, though.
But i can't blame people for buying on grey market sites. Most can't tell them apart from authorised resellers and keys there are just so dirt cheap (which is a bit of a red flag).
The truly hilarious part is that Steam has a substantially lower rating than Gee-Two-A.com or Kinguiin on Trust Pilot: https://www.trustpilot.com/review/www.steam.com.
But that may just be for their customer service.
