Interval 02 Will Not Load
I keep coming back to this game, trying to get it work, trying out new ideas. Every time I start a new game it loads up without a problem, including all the cinematics and then the level. However, after I get on the helicopter, which is the transition into the next level, Interval 02, I enter an infinite loading screen where the bar never goes up.

I have seen many discussions about running the game on Windows 10 (my current OS) with issues occurring and possible workarounds, and I've tried them all, from what I can tell. I've altered the settings.cfg file, run as administrator and in compatibility mode, even reinstalling the game and adding the exe to the virus protection exclusion.

If anyone else has had this issue, please let me know, even if you haven't solved it. Perhaps together, we can try and figure it out. Or, best case scenario, someone has solved it already and can help us figure it out. Thanks!

Same. How is this going?

I've found this little tip in another post. Set launch option:

-userdirectory FEAR_User

Prior to this, in addition to not reaching Interval 02, it was having a hell of a time figuring out how to save anything. I could appear to save a game, or a quicksave, or a profile, and it would make another new save directory with weird characters each time, like p†Save, but not get real data saved to it which was clear from the lack of anything to load a moment later.

Now it knows to use a dir called FEAR_User every time and there's no confusion, and everything seems to work.

I'm having the same problem elbonians but I'm new to PC games and have no idea what your solution means.... Any chance you could dumb it down a bit?

I set launch option as FEAR_user but mine is still freezing at interval 2. Really want to replay this gem

Ok, glad this tip has been helpful and I'll go ahead and dumb it down anyway.

In Steam library, right click F.E.A.R. and go to its properties. Under the General tab you will see "set launch options". Give it a launch option of: -userdirectory FEAR_User

If you want to play the 2 DLCs (I thought they were good) then do the same process for both of them.

Thank you so much! I've been trying to pass Interval 02's loading screen for so long!
