Best Games Similar to F.E.A.R.

The sequels were okay, but inferior to the first. Most modern shooters get a lot of things right, but F.E.A.R... is there anything else like it?

Maybe Half-Life 2, id tech 4 games like Doom 3 / Quake 4 / Prey...Condemned / maybe The Suffering in a way that's it's horror action game, too, but it's more similar to Silent Hill and Manhunt than FEAR...so guess not.

Half Life 2 is probably the next best thing, despite not playing quite like F.E.A.R.
Doom 3 and Quake 4 are okay, but their story-telling isn't quite up to par.
Haven't played Prey, though I don't think my PC can handle it.
I'll take a look at The Suffering, but my expectations are low (no offense to you).
F.E.A.R. 2 remains my favorite overall shooter in terms of mechanics, graphics and compatibility.
But it took the series' story telling to the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

Alpha Prime tried to do a FEAR of sorts and I did finish the game. I picked up a pre-owened retail copy of the original Prey and the luckly the cd key worked on Steam.

Great time-manipulation-mechanics, some great weapons, overall a bit similiar to Half Life 2.
Just a bit grey and takes a little bit to get away from that.
And if you played that and enjoyed the time-mechanic-stuff I can recommend Singularity.

Clive barker's Jericho. Horror and macabre. But totally different gameplay.

Not so strange. Stalker and Fear are my 2 best games, it seems that I'm not the only one..

Wasn't refering to the quality, but I don't think the games have that much in common.

Indeed they are diiferent games but have some in common : epic gunfights, "scary" ambient, interesting story (I m talking about SOC) and old style gameplay.

Yes Stalker with mods is my favourite series of games. Very good atmosphere, a true gritty survival FPS, with AI that feels alive. They have not been beaten. Anyone that wants the full PC gaming experience should play them, but after such good games, Fallout / Far Cry will feel fake..

Im surprised no one has said Max Payne series too if you like bullet time..

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ai is great but not like FEAR ai at all so I can see why the reccomendation is kinda out there, atmosFEAR-ically (im so sorry) its just as great a game with horror and shooting throughout mixed in ruined settings, but the ai is a bit dumber without mods (ie lets charge through the anomaly to get the stalker) so the two are both great shooters but in different boats.

Crysis 1 with GoC bullet time mod is really good.
