Game Freezing When Saving
Whenever the game Autosaves, Quicksaves or Hardsaves it freezes for a whole minute, sometimes up to 5 freaking minutes. No, not the Logitech issue at all, and the funny thing is, when I ran the game for the first time after installation it saves and runs perfectly untill I quit and launch it again. I reinstalled it like 3 times and the same thing keeps happening. I used to own the retail version of this game back in 2006 and it ran perfectly even on Windows 10, but the Steam version has this issue. I got the Steam version for the latest patch and the DLCs, but I can't play them because the game keeps freezing everytime I hit a freaking checkpoint. Does anyone had or have a similar issue or know to fix it?

I'm having the same problems you're describing, but with a retail copy.

A bunch of weeks ago I decided to re-install the game and it worked just fine. Yesterday, after a week or two of not playing, I decided to continue where I left off, but now I'm having ridiculous saving times as well. The eerie background music keeps playing, but the rest of the game seems to freeze (no light flickering, for example). When I perform an action, such as shooting, it will be executed after the game 'unfreezes'.

I suppose it's related to some kind of Windows update.

So far I've tried fiddling with various options in the NVIDIA control panel, excluding the installation folders from my virus scanner, running the game in various compatibility modes, running the game as administrator and experimenting with various options in the game itself - all to no avail.
I also tried starting a new campaign to see if it was perhaps related to the save file, but the problem persists.

My operating system is Windows 8.1, my virus scanner is Avast.

Did you - or anyone else - manage to fix this issue?

Having this problem as well , the freeze lasts for like 30 seconds everytime I save, AND it is curious to note that at the beggining of the game the freeze was really short, hope we can find a solution soon.

The only fix I could find yet was logging out of Windows, though the game itself is still prone to freezes.

Thank you, I found this works for me as well. Strangely enough my gaming laptop was started normally before encountering the issues (no hibernation inbetween or anything), but somehow logging off and logging in did the trick.
Thanks!

Turned on my PC for the first time today and the long freezing is gone, I guess logging out/restarting does the trick¡

Interesting, let me try it out.

I still get freeze at interval L when going through the sewers and a static starts, so it's not going to help everywhere.

Well, it works so far. Thanks for the help, I can bear some level of freezing on some parts but not the whole game.

Yeah, but that place is impassable for me since the freeze is immediate and can't do anything about it, so if it gets like that for you as wel, only a save from someone else could help.

This is happenign to me as well here in 2021. Was there a fix?

The small freeze while the game saves is normal and was part of the original retail copy. There’s no way to fix it IIRC.

For anyone else who's been having this problem, what sorts of peripherals do you keep plugged into your computer? For me, specifically, the problem seems to have been something up with an 8bitdo controller I bought last Christmas, since I never had this sort of problem until I started leaving it plugged in, and so far it looks like unplugging it when I'm not using it fixed the problem.
