not scared of F.E.A.R. ?
So many people are like 'what's so scary about it, just some little girls ghost pfff..., gunplay is good and I breezed through this game in 5 hours.'

Go to your room, lock door (no friends, mum or wife in the room), turn off the light, headphones on, pump up the volume (music and ambient so good) and enjoy this game way it meant to be played.

if you're 12-13 year old yep, it's pretty scary..
as you get more mature you'll find things like games and movies scare you much less.

Nothing's scary when you're 'mature' or just plain stupid and lack imagination.

Coming from a guy that's scared of a little girl, this means nothing.

This game isnt scary but a great FPS. The same developers made a game called Condemned Criminal Origins at around the same time. It isnt scary but nothing matches the atmosphere in Condemned. Imagine Fear with the kicks, lights, sound but you have no guns and ur fighting junkies in a rotting city with steam pipes, conduit pipes, wooden planks, manakin arms etc. There are a few set pieces in that game which are genuinly hair raising. Its the only game to ever make me feel uneasy and i highly praise it for that.

Both Fear and Condemned have excellent triggers like in Half-life series with great physics for its dated engine.

There was only one scary part for me, and it was a jumpscare in one of the expansions. Everyone who saw it knows what I'm talking about.

The only part thats scary is "Flush him out, Fire in the hole" (Game Over) impact grenades

Im 35. I play this game from time to time since years and for me it's still scary when i play it in my "dark room" with headphones. There are some things you should not lay down just because you're getting older. I'm still like a big child and Jesus i hope this will be this way till the end of my life. You can much more enjoy games then ;)

Thats good to hear this is a game for the ages like half-life i dont think it will ever get old. It has a certain charm to it. I highly recomend Condemned Criminal Origins if you liked F.E.A.R.

What is scary from one person to another is compeltely subjective.
It's not a negative towards this game (or any game) if one person finds it scary and another does not.

And it does not speak to the maturity or how much of a "man" one person is over another.
There are people who found Amnesia boring (raises hand), weren't feaked out by Outlast... and were not creeped out by PT.
While there are people who were pushed beyond their limits by Doom 3 or even BioShock.

I love horror titles. In fact, horror in general is a personal favorite of mine. Be it film, book or game. It's a genre I enjoy a lot. Yet, I don't get "scared" by it, there's still enjoyment to be had in immersing yourself in the experience.

As for FEAR, is it scary? No. Personally, I don't think so. But, the game does a great job at building tension. A feeling of uneasyness. And it's not all caused by the supernatural elements of the game.
A lot of the game's tension actually builds from the enemy soldiers. Their chatter and team work. It gives the player something real to fight against, an enemy that feels like it's working as a group to take the player down.
But, in the end... FEAR is an amazing FPS. An engaging, gripping action title that handles shooting better then any other title in the genre.
And it's a beautiful horror title with heavy influence in Asian horror and psychologital suspense.

Like said the scariest part of the game is "Fire in the Hole" ! then you die in 1 hit with 140 health and 100 armor on hardest setting. The grenades 1 shot you on impact. Not many games do this.
Also i agree about the AI adding to the tension of firefights.

They come in as a tight confident crew only to be scared ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and cursing as they see their comrads die.

The ai is truly masterfull in this game, they rush , flank ,fall back all with respected communications which you can usually hear. I wish more games had cursing AI that screamed:

Oh ♥♥♥♥!!!!!!
♥♥♥♥!!!! HES ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥!!! GOT US!
Flush Him out!
or when you enter reflexes you almost always here a slo-mo F-u-u-u-u-u-k-k-k-k-

seriously what other game has swearing AI other than like i mentioned Condemned from the same creators. an example would be

ZZZZZRRRAAHHHHHHHH!!!!( as i taser a junkie)

Clonkk (as a take a pipe to his head)

Then he spits out all his teeth FLuuuwwwwwthhh and realises hes about to die so starts cursing.

ZAAAAAP CLONK FLwwwuutthhh Oh FOCK (heavy breathing) then you snap his neck CRACK
