Controller and keyboard

So I read somewhere that you have to hit play with your controller first and then with your mouse click on a second player. I get to the point where I have 2 players loaded up, and I can click ready on one of them. But the other player just doesn't start and I can't customize or do anything.
I can turn the bungee off and on, but just can't seem to start the game with both controller and keyboard.

Maybe the game doesn't support both? Have you added your controller in the settings?

settings as in big picture settings? I think I have the controller detected but that's about it. Do I need to add it somewhere else?

That's what I meant, yes. I can't speak for CK because the game doesn't work for me anymore (sadly), but I know that at least with games like Left 4 Dead and most game's I've tried it with let me, so adding it like that might work?

Hmm yeah, I've been trying that, and the problem I'm having is that after I have locked in with the mouse and try to join with the controller, the controller basically accepts and overrides the mouse and acts as if they both control the same player. Thanks for the help though! Hopefully I figure something out
