Halo column
The column doesn't bother real drivers in real cars because they see in 3D - they see "around" it while sitting still. The game is only 2D so the column is definately a problem for me.

I play on PC and the option to turn the halo column on or off is always grayed out and can't be set in either Grand Prix or Time Trial mode. The initial opening screen options doesn't have a Camera Customization tab so no joy from there either.

Can anyone lead me to where I can change this on a PC?

Did you make sure, that you're in cockpit mode in the camera settings? Since there's no need to switch it off in any other camera i can imagine that being the only case where it is greyed out.
