Did I miss party members?
So I completed all quests in the starting village and (barely with many reloads) made it to the other village.
A lot of the chance encounters are quite hard for a 2 person party with one dull sword, no crossbow ammo and no armor.
Did I miss out on recruitable characters in the starting village? The village guy doesnt wanna go.

Once you get to the starting village you can recruit the person who came with you from the beach ex. Fiona. That person will be at the first village inn. *You must accept a quest from the village mayor. This will allow you to recruit the "temporary" axe dude and then you can go to the Inn and get your previous companion as well. Once you complete all quests in that village, and go to leave the village map, the axe dude will leave you.
After leaving that map, you will brought to the Slaver Camp, there you can recruit another member, old guy by the camp fire. Now you should have three.
Once you make it to Grainhold, you have to complete a certain murder quest for the bailiff, if you do it correctly / interview all involved, you can then recruit one more person. You should then have a four person party.
Its actually Fiona for noble the pugilist old man for adventurer (which is geared for being archer/crossbowman and Sword bandid lady for Bandid - who is geared towards axe user you meet second pugilist if you agree to surrender to bandids in first enounter and got either bard (dagger wielding rouge like character) or barbarian swordsman in second village once you suceed the Bailif quest. So you should get four people party in second town, the game is not holding your hand for sure and some quests are very tricky to trigger and to sucseed you need to read your and NPC dialogues not only click them, build your main Character to have high Personality and Perception - as your companions would not pass tests for you and of course think before clicking answer, check every corner and talk to everybody you can and I mean every body even children and farm animals, read every book and note and you will still miss tons of things on your first play-through.

Thx for the answers.
I never went to the slaver camp. I hit them with my 70 intimidation and they left me alone.
Its a bit unforunate game design that you can miss out on one of the very limited party members.

You can still go to the slaver camp and pick up the companion, you just have to find it first. In my first playthrough, all were killed with the 'luck' choice, but was still able to find the camp and recruit the companion (though they responded like I had just fought through the camp even though there was no one there except one sleeping guard and the prisoners).

I still had a save to fall back to so its all fine now.
There are a lot of silly rules regarding recruting but the devs said that most possible party members will be in swordhaven when its introduced. Giving a chance to recruit lost members wich is great.
There are also some problems with the exp levels of companions but i think the swordhaven update will fix most issues related to companions
I am ready for some more Swordhaven and exploring of the world.
