Cheers for confirming what I suspected, missed out on that one then.
You didn't miss out on much. It was kind of crappy and super short (I finished it in 5 hours.) Definitely not worth the $8 I spent on it.

Does anyone know why this game was taken down?

Not sure why they took it down... though I do know the DVD copies were all bad when they released this game. Had a bad pressing at the manufacture so the whole lot was crap. I went through two copies before giving up on getting a functional one. Saw it on steam but then it vanished... possibley a copyright thing as the orginal company that made it is kaput.

Would it be possible, theoretically speaking, that the game shows up again on Steam, or is it dead and buried for good? Despite of being quite short, I actually enjoyed Terminator Salvation and I'd defintely buy it if it were available for purchase.

Well, considering wolfenstein 2009, a good game (sorry) was taken down due to publishing issues and it still isn't back up...

I doubt TS will come back any sooner, maybe not at all.

Normally when a game is taken off Steam, it stays that way. Like TF2 Beta, or PC Gamer digital. The only way to get it is to use an account that got it pre-removal. And seeing TS was both a crappy movie and game, I doubt it will ever return.

I managed to snag a retail copy, which obviously cannot be registered on Steam, since it doesn't even come with an install key. Well, I guess that's better than nothing (torrenting excluded).
