Has anyone figured out a purpose they serve? Provide proof if you have. As far as I can tell, they were added simply for nostalgia of their glorious supremacy in the first game.

Really? I thought they were all-around better stat wise than Cannon except range, and with downfall of not enabled to select target.

If you check the wiki, its dps/cost isnt that well. I dont suggest to use, its only advantage as well as downside is to shoot at random lumes, so it isnt that likey to waste dps on armored lumes. Anyway, if you talk about 5 FoS - gaming there is no real sense for it.

Scatter laser is amazing for hitting Hoverer's/Hoverer Queens weak spots and really helpful on "The end"-mission.
