Yes, it is. After building a road over the whole railroad in the middle part, I decided to take another approach, happy how it turned out. Almost got a straight line between south and north now :)
That said - the moment the game allowed me to start dumping sand in the "here's how to dump sand" tutorial mission and I realized the entire width of the river was contained within the quarry area.. well, Africa got a lot less water and a lot more sand.
I had to laugh when the very next mission was to build a bridge like 200 feet further down the bank. Guess I saved myself those resources, and ruined the local shipping industry.
Outside the beginning of the first few maps until you unlock bridge building, how are you limited exactly ?
