I work for a Construction Company as Traffic Control, and they use a Loader or Skid Steer with Buckets to level a section of road, then use a regular roller, or a Trench Roller (Remote controlled robot thing) to pack it.
Typically it's
Dirt > Smooth (loader or Skid Steer) > Roll > Rocks (we call Crush and Run) > Smooth > Roll > then have someone else Pave it... well after we put the pipe in the ground... we mostly do Water, sewer, and drainage, Hire another company to do the actually paving.
We have the graders and bulldozers, but those are for the larger sites, not for roadwork.
The Trenches we make aren't wide enough for either to fit in.... Sometimes a Loader is too big, but we still use it to pour sand, dirt or stone in the hole.
A grader really wouldn’t be needed, but a bulldozer could be useful is some cases. A loader with a bucket and forks would be enough.
Wonder why the didn’t make it so you could swap attachments, even if it was just the front end magically changing, like sand coming from the sky.
