You really have to smooth out the sand, make sure everthing level for it. I noticed however when you complete a road, if you had other paving on the edges (additional lanes) it screw it up and you have to go over two strips.

You would think road crafting game would have decent road crafting mechanics...
Its broken yeah. Feels like its driving between two train tracks or something, and thats when on a flat surface in some cases. Let the ai handle it if its a predetermined road, but outside of that ya kind of screwed.

Can you flatten sand with asphalt roller?
Sadly not lol. I tried and it ignores anything in terms of flattening aside from asphalt
I've been tapping the function off and on to get over rough spots. Sometimes going backwards helps to, but its definitely jank. For the record, I auto-level my sand several times in either direction before playing down my first asphalt strip. Hopefully the first patch makes its mating surface more forgiving. Same for dirt leveling.

I wish it wouldn't get in "that mood" where no matter how carefully you tap the turn stick/key, it suddenly decides it can only turn in 20 degree increments.

You literally can have the AI do it for you so its SMOOTH and works... Its actually part of the system any road it asks you to build you can have AI pour the sand, smooth it, and then pave and roll it ♥♥♥♥ you can even get them all there and have them go one at time in a train.

If you want to do it manually you GOT TO DO IT RIGHT. Its a paver ever seen one those IRL I have they got like almost no clearnce they can't even handle a damn speed bump lol Flatten you roads my friend does a good job just manually setting the dozer blade on his final pass and doing 2-4 passes to flaten it all out. We made quite a bit of manual roads just for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles waiting for conveys in map two for instance I joined his with my company and I got bored and we just started paving roads at random to kill time lol

Seriously make the damn roads flat its that easy the paver requires a flat road, nut a bumpy one sigh.

Drive it in reverse. It is the only fix that i have found that makes it sligthly bearable. I reccomend you mute your speakers tho.

Manual mode you just go all way up or down in the presets, its after marching if you going up, and down its after asphault remover setting. But its got be semi flat first, it kind moves it around on its own on sand mode, he does the manual blade and drives slow to level it all out.

But he and his buddy watch us stream it on Discord, both have done construction in real life, so yeah, he is way better at it than I. Also they still can't get past "marching mode" with blade up that high they keep ♥♥♥♥ talking it, going "no one would ever releasitilcly do this ever you rais it up so its not blocking your vision but still off the ground, you just asking to tip over...just like that." and they laugh "its so stupid, and manual is locked in low gear too"

oh and manual you can tilt the blade too for what ever freaking reason.. I don't use it much we do MP and I drop the sand like crap and he fixes my mess in the dozer lol

Do 3-4 passes with your dozer to really spread the sand flat. Also, use your field service vehicle to pull the paver, way easier...
it's not *broken*, just a bit finicky; you just need more sand to avoid catching rocks and other terrain features under everything
EDIT: turns out devs said it's a bit buggy and they will improve it this week

It gets easier once you get the modern paver and the truck dozer (both are wider)
the asphalt paver will get an update in the next update.
( they said something about this in the latest news letter )
