Working well for me on an Xbox Elite (v1) wireless.

I didn't have to do anything to get it working so sadly not sure I can help but it does definitely work.

Got the same issue and have a Elite V2 a friend who has the same version of the Elite V2 did not have the same issue with connecting his controller

Same controller here. Try turning off Steam Input.

I have the elite 2 and no go

In my case I had a Turtle Beach keyboard with hall effect switches that can also function as a controller. I had to disable that function for the keyboard, reboot the PC and then reconnect my Xbox controller. Has this issue in other games as well.
All works well now and Stream input properly detects the correct controller.
