Are any of the Anno games pirate games? They sure don't look like it, which is why I've ignored them this whole time. I'd like to be wrong.

Yes, it's an Anno 1800-clone.

But a very competently made and charming one, and - at least for me - without the problems and baggages that made me quit Anno 1800. So in my four hours of the demo, I immensely enjoyed myself!

anno 1800 is made by ubisoft, which makes any other version not made by ubisoft infinitly superior

Anno just doesn't interest me.

But I tell ya, if there was a pirate-focused Anno-alike I would play it.

Oh wait... :)

When I first seen videos of this I was sure they had just licensed the Anno engine.. as its graphically a copy and paste of it..

Was hoping they would have multiplayer in this as well but i guess not.. still might pick it up over the next few weeks when i get some spare time.

BlueByte make the anno games. Ubi$oft is just, unfortunately, involved as the publisher. Don’t give Ubi$oft more credit than they’ve earned

I don't care.
I haven't played Anno and I don't even know what it is.
I like this game.

As an Anno 1800 player, this caught my attention until I saw a vid that said some quality of life controls are missing here, which breaks the experience. Anno also doesn't care about combat much because it's first and foremost a city builder and resource manager with some combat elements.

So my question is to those who've played this game: Does this struggle to make up its mind whether to be primarily a city builder or RTS? Or does it actually synergize both aspects well and the inadequate quality of life controls are not game breaking? Appreciate any honest answers if you're not simply trying to "justify" your purchase to convince yourself that you made the right decision even if you don't feel comfortable about it.

well i've only played the demo. but i can say that the combat system rerally dissapointed me. there is barley any deaph in it. honestly i think in the first hours i've played, that anno 1800 had even the depper kombat system, with the wind-system

Tbh, I don't play Anno for the combat and prefer to disable pirates. Anno 1800 also took away the land combat you see in 1404. Not that I mind since it's a city builder rather than a traditional RTS or Total War game.

The problem with trying to make combat as immersive as possible in a city builder is that it greatly changes the game's dynamics to the point that the overall city building experience breaks down imho. If you're at war in a city builder against competent opponents, most of your resources will be dedicated to spamming units and replenishing losses, and you'll be rushing to destroy the enemy completely as quickly as possible before complex supply chains get too disrupted and become a huge pain to re-establish. In other words, it would mainly turn into an RTS experience. If your opponents are weak, then you might as well just roll over them than engage in any meaningful diplomacy or trade. I've yet to see a city builder implement real-time combat well tbh.

They should add "the hand".
Perfect for moving stuff around instead of destroying just to fix the position of one building.

We all checked that game out due to the fact its an Anno Clone.
Well its less micro management and more ship fights and i really enjoyed it.

Can it compete with Anno 1800? Obviously not but Anno1800 with all DLCs is 100+ Bucks w/o a sale and this 22,49€.

Sure its missing some QoL features but on the other hand sometimes I'm not always in the mood for a Anno run and need a simplistic game and this hits right the sweetspot.
Not half ass baked like Manor Lords with 5% of the content this game has.

Anno clone...hilarious. How about Age of Empires, Command and Conquer, Banished, and Pharaoh? Fans being butt hurt over a game that is similar, makes me shake my head.
Anno by Ubisoft, oh that makes some people upset. They download the game on steam and then can't play it. Got to do a guide just to play a game.
The Anno fan bus left and doesn't care about new players on Steam buying it.
They would rather bash this game then bash Ubisoft for their terrible DLCs and poor management using Steam.
