Secondary wand confusion

I occasionally see a wand called Voltage Stone that has very awkward phrasing and took me a while to figure out how it works. There's some secondary slots and it says "The wand charge 20 energy for every 45 damage above". I'm sure that probably made perfect sense in Mandarin, but I couldn't decipher it.

I went to the test dummy area and learned a few things. It seems to mean "charge 20 secondary energy if you deal at least 45 damage with your primary spell on this wand". Dealing under 45 damage means you never build charge unless you crit and your crit is over 45 damage.

The charge also gets spent all at once with a multicast, so putting a single butterfly spell in there that normally fires 3 shots will instead spit out 6-9 butterflies with no delay. Doubling your primary damage to 90 doesn't double the charge that's produced.

I'm glad this game has a test area because I got this wand on my first playthrough and it seemed broken. None of the spell combinations I had did over 45 damage per cast so it never did anything.

Yes, it charges on any damave above 45. It's meant to played with high damage spells like rock or mine.
