[Bug] Wand spirit stopped working

When I entered the last area with the fully upgraded spirit guide character, it stopped firing a few rooms in.
My build wrecked my computer's performance at least once per room, because I summoned way too many butterflies I suspect. I think this also did something to the game's mechanics.
When such a bug occured in prior versions, I could quit to the main menu and reload to fix it, but that doesn't seem to work anymore.
