the game is literaly called magicraft
Look at your builds a little more closely and see where you can optimize the damage output. Better yet, if you can screenshot you wands/spells next time you get to the Abyssal Lord and post them, the community will be able to better help you.
One of the easier builds to go with is literally most any spell with the following;
1) Multi-shot
2) Automatic Navigation
3) Split or Damage Boost
If you can get the EPIC level spells then I've always been partial to Magic Upgrade and Arcane Nova.
Hit me up if that sounds like something you'd like
i appreciate the offer but i wasnt talking about the spell combinations inside the wands but the wand itself, as it has happaned to me multiple times that i was running around with 120 max mp and very few spell slots until the end of the game
I see. And going into shops in those 'dry streaks' do not yield a better wand base for you?
thats ok
that just means you get to spend more time getting better and enjoying the game. this is a good thing
unlearn this habit of coming to cry on the forums though when something is hard for you. its a bad habit for you and it negatively impacts the rest of us sometimes too
I hope you continue to enjoy the game, best of luck
- Wands aren't "random," they always have the same base stats, and most of them (aside from the weird storage wands like warlock's satchel) have the exact same spells every time. Want an arcane nova? Split? Homing? Multi shot? Orbit? 2 mimics? Mana Absorption? Range Boost? There are wands that carry those 100% of the time you find those wands.
- A simple trick for lots of damage on high HP targets is to use poison, even if you don't use the poison character. Poison stacks effectively infinitely, with new stacks refreshing the duration of all stacks. So, a simple wand build is to go for some thing that spams a lot of projectiles like say, Arcane Nova, and then something that produces a lot of damage ticks/hits (i.e. Ray of Disintegration, Stream, Dragon Breath, thunderstorm, snake, butterflies, etc) and then apply modifiers that reduce mana cost/increase the number of projectiles. (Don't worry about making more novas with say split or multi cast, save the mana and apply it to the payload). Even something like a fuse or any of the other options like duet can do something very similar. A simple fuse + butterflies will often be more than enough for the first couple of stages.
- Experiment! Things might not work how you expect initially, or do very useful things. For example, any kind of homing lets thunderstorm chase after enemies, and accelerator improves that. Or, how orbit can make some spells (like boomerang) orbit weirdly with split.
- The game is a LOT like Binding of Isaac, in that it wants you to break it. I.E. if you get the coin spell, and you have a potion (or two) that doubles all pick ups on the ground (like keys and coins...), you can use the coin spell to empty your pockets and then double (or more!) your coins! And money, frankly, is incredibly important. Being able to buy spells and wands and potions (if you're lucky) is vital. Shops are one of the few ways you can really search for spells or wands you need.
- Make one wand that kills everything, your other wands should be for storage, or utility (i.e. a lightning dash wand or an arcane barrier wand) by the time you get to the 3rd boss. Trying to make multiple wands that kill stuff often leads to spreading your resources too thin and you end up with two bad to ok wands instead of one ok to good wand. Pick one wand to be your stat stick, and use the others for stuff like area boost, or wands that have modifiers that affect other wands (like reduced Expanding Container or Energized Orb)
- Set bonuses can be really important too, i.e. Merlin's set bonus is huge, always try to go for it. It's a flat +300 mana to ALL wands.
You can reroll the wands like, 8 or 9 times iirc. There has not been a single run where I haven't gotten at least two wands I want, and I rarely want low tier wands, especially since the shop pools for wands are VERY limited, and each stage has its own pool.
