Is a summoning build viable against Nightmare Abyssal Lord?

I just did a really big summoning run because chaining Grimoires is one of my favorite things to do, but it and the Cthulu daddy long legs all suped up with the summon enhancement just got absolutely wrecked by the abyssal lord. I couldn't keep them out long enough to do any meaningful damage, I had to rely on my black hole orbit and dodging attacks.

I really feel like the build I had was awesome, it crushed a lot of the regular enemies - but the moment the screen starts filling with damage and cutting them down, it doesn't seem to be viable anymore.

If anyone has done this before, I'd love to see a video of it? I'm sure it's possible with a little luck and the right build, but the on-screen damage is just too incredible for summoning.

I myself use just the troll or cats for the summon, but I think I saw someone beating the dev with the spider, so it should be more than doable to do Abyssal lord
