Can you test the island with a character and grapple etc. or just build?

yes! you can test any island from the character's perspective in play mode - you'll have a grappling hook, glider, gun and atlas lifters!

What does the Atlas Lifters do? I couldn't figure it out.

atlas lifters can be thrown and attached to physics objects & apply anti-gravity making them float. for example, there might be a large boulder placed by a player, blocking a cave entrance - that's where you'd need an atlas lifter :)
