40 hours?
The advertisement seems false. Every review that said they finished the game has 15-30 hours. Not a good look under delivering. I really want to try this game and like it, but I'm already disappointed from what I see

Less on false advertising, more with consumers' interpreted the content differently than the developer stated.

It wasn't 40 hours to complete a single playthrough.

It was 40+ hours to get all the endings, do the optional content, to collect and try out all the masks, weapon classes, lines, try several builds, collect and read all the lore.

If the question, "How long is a single playthrough" was asked early on, the answer might have been different than "how much is there to do in the game?" Both are subjective.

Reviewers as a whole race through games skipping all but main bosses. They do not do a complete game. This is why so many reviews are complete trash and not a valid representation of the game.

14 hours but i half assed it at around the half way point (ran past enemies and didn´t explore everything); the general mechanics are cool but it is just very very easy; i think i never saw a souls like with that many "bonefires" than here, felt like every 5 enemies they placed a bonefire and on top of that routes back to old ones
i think i managed to first try 60% of the bosses which is a lot for me, even got the final boss first try;
