Why is there no character creation?
It's not like the protagonist is some super unique character brimming with charisma and personality, he actually kinda looks like the NPC meme instead.

I hope it's some top-tier trolling from the developers, because otherwise it just seems hella lazy...

You literally play as a blank slate in a world where people are defined by their masks.

It is a development shortcut, but it allows a small team to focus their time on creating more content instead of working on character customization.

That sounds like you trying to defend the indefensible. By that logic, you can make a game that has no visuals whatsoever and is just a black screen and then say "Well, you're playing as a blind guy, so this is all intentional actually!"

Cool, doesn't make me wanna play the game though. I bought Enotria assuming it had character creation (something all Souls games have)

Your character is a blank slate that can change looks with other masks, if you want a dress-up souls game this isn't gonna be it for you.

Lies of P wants a word. Also not having a character creator isn't "indefensible," making a blue skinned meme character wouldn't change that masks define the character in-universe.

Character creator barely matters in games like this. In all Fromsoft games your character is covered from head to toe with armor and in souls-likes like recent LOFT your character is also mostly covered up to the point all those small little details you spent time making are never even seen unless you specifically play naked with no armor.

As others have said the concept of the game is based around masks, so having a character creator would be wasted resources and it would not alter the gameplay in the slightest.

I personally feel this games mask system is potentially a good middle ground between full character customization and souls-likes with preset protagonists like Surge 1, Lies Of P,....etc. The only thing that would make it better is if you could mix and match masks/armor sets for pure visual variety.

You start as nameless one, a puppet without purpose. Masks give you personality, face and name.

Not every game need to have a character creator. This game has very interesting and unique setting and the character we play fits in.

"I don't understand the lore mimimi blablabla"

Cool bro, but did you really need to come here to tell us about it? Nobody cares, nobody asked man.

there really are better arguments than this, you could say all the masks look the same basically from shoulders down and you would be correct. the whole idea of being a nameless puppet though removes gender and race so by asking for these you actually objectify yourself, meaning you are nothing without your identity based on your looks.
I would urge you to consider how you personally would play those roles, rather than playing the roles how they are intended. are you just an actor? playing the role of someone else?
a nameless puppet?
all you're asking for is a specific type of mask.
