Enotria is also an amazing game. Learn to play before pouring your emotions out here in the forum. I play mostly with the Abandoned Bell which is a colossal weapon. Every enemy (even fast ones like Veltha) have openings where you can weave a heavy attack or two. You need to learn their patterns. That's what a souls-like is about, learning enemy moves and getting good.
Also using the right type of weapon + stats + lines is important. Each weapon has different scaling stats. Imho this game has more build variety than Lies of P.
Perfect parry fills the blue meter. When the blue meter is full, you can get a finishing blow.
Last but not least, upgrade, upgrade, upgrade. A fully upgraded weapon + mask + lines is super OP, makes everything in this game so easy. This is same like in Lies of P where you simply upgrade a weapon and the P-Organ tree and you become OP.
First, thank you for the advice, I tell you that in my 10 hours of playing, mainly when I enter the second part of the game, 90% of the enemies do not allow you to do a 2-hit combo with the colossal sword, there is no window of opportunity For them, on the other hand the weapon move sets are very simple and similar, (with the exception of the saber), which makes it boring for me to know that I am going to be playing a game for hours and hours always using the same weapon always doing the same simple move set, why don't boss weapons have unique abilities? that makes it more exciting and rewarding to go hunt defeat bosses, so it's not a matter of the game being made easy by upgrading weapons nor do I want to go op, nor do I want an unfair or artificial difficulty, it's a matter of balance, a well done parry is the one from sekiro or the one from lies of P, to give an example.
It's a different type of game and you should not compare it with other games of the genre. Yes in Lies of P you get unique boss weapons with cool effects. In this game you get different masks, roles, mask lines etc.
What I also like about this game is the graphics and the sound track. UE5 engine is beautiful to explore. Sound effects for combat is also satisfying. Also, thank God this game has limited platforming, something I really hate in most souls-like game as it's simply a time killer for me.
Yeah, Maybe 10 hours is too little to grasp the mechanics, the game is different, maybe I came to the game with the wrong expectations,
I'm going to give it another chance, I haven't delved into the stats system yet because I'm very visual, and stats are more of a matter of addition and subtraction, but I'm going to give it a try. another chance with the hope that I come to like it, although I'm not sure, at least you gave me the push.
Experiment with different weapons, mainly the stat scaling and invest in those stats. Upgrade the weapon. Remember you can refund all the materials from upgraded weapons as long as it’s still +9 or below. Once it’s +10 it’s max upgrade and you can’t downgrade it. Use this to experiment different weapons and see which one works for you. If you like big bonk weapons try the Bell, upgraded it kills everything regardless of what damage they resist. If you want to interrupt enemy attacks, try Heavy attacks. Wait for a window to hit them, there’s always one, even for the fastest enemies. Let them do their combo and immediately you follow with a heavy attack combo. If you follow up a heavy attack with another heavy attack, the second heavy attack will most certainly stagger almost every regular enemies and even bosses. If you go with a colossal weapon, have a fast weapon like a Sabre as backup. You can play with the colossal weapon alone but for some small enemies it’s easier to finish them off with the faster weapon. With a Saber, a light attack followed by a heavy combo will kill most small enemies. You can also use weapons with status effects. Some of them have status effects built in. Others apply status effects on heavy attacks (you can see in the stat that one stat is higher or simply swing the heavy attack and you’ll see the animation/color). Vis makes them take more damage. Fatuo will heal you for every hit. Gratia will cause explosion when filled. Poison when fully applied will kill the enemy over time.
Lastly, don’t worry about min maxing. I have 30 in every stat and it still feels powerful. I never respecced or anything even though I can since I beat Veltha.
As you say the art and music is really great, I thoroughly enjoy the visuals.
However the combat system is super unpolished and in serious need of rebalancing.
Using large weapons is not satisfying whatsoever. Even small enemies seem to have some level of hyper armor and light attacks even from colossal weapons doesnt seem to stagger them. On the other hand a small sword L-H combo seems to stagger even some large, armored enemies. Its so stupid...
Parrying is again quite unrewarding. Some enemies have such high unravel meter it takes like 15 perfect parry to stagger them. (looking at you crabs...) IMO 1-2 perfect parry should be enough for a stagger. Make the parry window smaller if you must, but just standing there parrying for 30-40 seconds is stupid feeling.
This is made worse by enemies being super duper aggressive and quite fast in general. Its always a fine line to give sufficient but not stupidly large window for the player to attack back and they really missed the mark. Especially early on, the larger knight type enemies really dont give you a window if you are not using a small weapon. It invalidates 2/3rd of the early weapons.
Being sad that, the game is quite easy in general beside 1-2 minor difficulty spike. I died only like 10 times during my initial playthourgh and at least 2-3 was due me missing a jump or falling in water. Building up bruiser allows you to just tank through most of the dmg and if you are not underleveled even main bosses are super easy.
Also additional complaint is the game does a really poor job of incentivizing the player to engage with the systems. I used the first mask all game, nothing really looked significantly better than that. I barely used the mask lines, anything that is not presto speed is completely useless. Especially early on the lines are very high risk for not a lot of reward which results in most players just ignoring them.
You should be able to weave them into your combo, but due the enemies being so fast and agressive its almost impossible most of the time. So at best you just use them for imbuing your weapon or to remove status effects.
I also used the loadout switching only a handful of times, the game simply doesnt require that and there is no real benefit. Again I think you should be able to weave in attacks from other loadouts, but when the boss have a 10 hit combo ending in a stagger then immediately starting another 10 hit combo there is simply no room for such finesse...
