Is the combat that hard or am I missing something ?
Basically self explanatory.

I'm a soulslike veteran, used to parry etc... And this game is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ with me right now.

I find that nearly every weapon is super weak against more-than-trash mobs, the ones who are supposed to put on a bit of a fight. Except they're not just putting a bit of a fight, they're wrecking me in three fast hits while I do nearly no damage either to their health or posture bars. Parrying perfectly 7 or 8 times in a row to be able to do a bit of damage while any missed input put me on the brick of death isn't my jam (considering on top of that the parry is super hard to handle, slow to start and quick to end).

The only solution I got is to use the mega greatsword (the Guts one) which is slow as ♥♥♥♥ but can actually do damage. Except it's not fun, I'm a dex-sekiro-rapier guy, not a heavy slow paced tank. But all weapons are slow anyway and the greatsword seems like it's the only one worth.

So, have I missed completly how the game is supposed to be played or is this the true game ? If so, then It's absolutely not for me. Shame considering I love a lot of its other aspects.

the enemies are few and the parry is super easy, I don't understand the complaints, those who played it on PS had no problems... yes or the parries to stun the enemy are too many and should be reduced.

you simply have to get used to its times and its "mathematics"

Okay, I followed some advices and realised some things.

First, fast weapons are ♥♥♥♥.
Two, equip your passives unlocked on each and every loadouts.
Three, up the first sword, it's the only viable weapon. Use the big one for stun damage.

I think the game is kind easy but have some issues indeed one of them is the animations of finishers are not smooth enough so feels to me like we are playing a video and them backing to the game.

Yeah, you need to actually equip your boons - and level up the weapon too.. Then you can one-shot the mobs, so, like with most games, it's about crowd control.

Depends what your criteria for "fast weapons" is.
Maces are really good, they could be considered quite fast and they do a lot of damage both to health and posture. You generally can get a heavy attack in after parrying which is more than enough to subdue bosses with great ease.

Haven't tried any other weapons, just equipped the UGS from the start and bullied every enemy all the way to the demo end. Died on the laughter boss once due to some stupidity but other than that I just poised through everything and face tanked both bosses. (You can use the items that give you health back on hit and the passives for health on skill usage and be effectively immortal. Might be a balance issue, we'll have to see)

I guess I must've chosen well. I'll have to go back through with a lighter weapon and see what it's like.

I can confirm this game is hard and each time you miss a parry you will be punish as hell. But you can still do it with time and practice. Many boss can literally Oneshot you if you don’t use many stats point to get more HP & Def. And the big point of the game is to use spell enchant which are fast to get and play around counter element on enemies. The main problem of the game which make harder than souls is : in enotria even with good parry you still lose life and stamina even if the parry window is small.
So be sure to hit just few then parry only if you have stamina and enough life or play sage back dodge far away to get more stamina and life before go again.
The game is still good even if lot of thing could be a way better. It’s their first game clap clap

I have pretty much used great sword and colossal great sword for the entire game, including most of the bosses in the game. Colossal great sword in particular seems to have trivialized a few of the fights that others (who rely on "fast weapons") have found difficult. You just have to learn when to dodge, back off, and parry. They game gets significantly easier after you beat Zanni, but I used a Curtis build for a lot of the game.

Fast weapons are bad? Really?

I can only play with longswords and polearms. Longswords are one of faster weapons as far as I know. I also use greatswords for certain elements. The rest of weapons are way to slow and require very careful engagement.

My arsenal in 3rd area is:
1. Juniper Sword, longsword - my main weapon for a very long time, solid damage, fast attack, bad running attack, ok-ish combos, ok-ish heavy attack
2. Vermillion Pastoral, polearm - this is my current main weapon, decent damage, still fast attack but slower than longsword, good running attack that can combo into heavy double spin, ok-ish combos, bad heavy attack unless you combo it after light one--too long wind up if you just use heavy attack. Most importantly, this weapon is Fatuo/Wicked infused and applies it very easily to most enemies. This effect is a game changer for me and it let me spank many bosses without using healing pots.
3. Blessed Rapier, greatsword - side arm I used to great effect in cloister area, I'm using it with Gratia/Radiant loadout. It is hitting hard but it is not fast enough for my liking.

I'm annoyed that a lot of good looking weapons are locked behind Elementalist virtue. I wanted to focus on physical damage and Mask line damage but so many weapons have this virtue requirement in 20+ region.

You can level up weapons, boons, and masks. Do all three!

the game isn't hard, you just have to adjust to it. the issue is on ng+ the final boss is bugged and cannot be beaten, for myself and a lot of other people. so do the final boss on your ng otherwise you cannot beat it currently.

I on the other hand tried big bonks, but felt them lackluster. You can basically stunlock almost every enemy with r1+r2 over and over again on a longsword. If you have a slower weapon or you were simply too slow with your buttons, weave in some ardore blasts (its the fastest stagger i ve found so far).
Even dodge attacks seem to have a place.

This is by far one of the easiest soulslike games out there tbh. Once you learn the parry you are good to go. Way more forgivable than Sekiro, Wu Long, Lies of P or other similar "parry based" games out there.

I've played 20+ souls likes and find this one really easy and I'm pretty average-terrible at From Software games (Besides Sekiro, that was also easy). I'm surprised some people are finding this game hard, although it does have a difficulty spike after Act 1.
