You could try changing some graphic settings (turning off some features or whatever). There may be something there that's causing problems (eg. some kind of incompatibility). I only mention this because I think someone recently posted that lowering the settings fixed a problem that they were having.
You mentioned "trilogy", but I've only played the first game, so the following may only apply to that game.
Make sure that V-Sync is turned on in the game options. And you may want to have Steam, or something else, display the frame rate, so that you can check and make sure that it isn't higher than the rate set in the game options (some things can override the V-Sync setting in the game, so it appears to be on, but it's really not).
Having V-Sync off can cause problems in the game. Usually it's a problem with how some objects in the game interact (the most common one seems to be problems controlling the RC car), but I think that there have been one or two people that said that enabling V-Sync fixed a crash.
