But, as I recall (it has been a long time), there are times when you'll be playing with two characters, and there's no way around that. Each character has different abilities/suits, and sometimes you'll need one character or the other to get past something. For example, you may need character A to get across a gap, and then you can extend a bridge so that character B can cross; and then later it might be the other way around.
But having two characters shouldn't be a big problem, since (as I recall) you don't normally need to switch between them except in situations like the one I described above. When moving around normal terrain, the other character should just follow you (I think. Like I said, it has been a long time).
