Did you try having Steam verify the game files? Just in case you have some corrupted files.

I assume that you're able to play other games. If you haven't tried to play any other games recently, try that, and see if they have problems too.

FWIW, I've seen that error in another game when I had the windows desktop set to one resolution and tried to play the game on a lower resolution. I don't know exactly what caused the error, but switching the game back to the desktop resolution got rid of the error. But if you can't even get the game to start, then you aren't getting the chance to set the resolution, and I would assume that the game is defaulting to the desktop resolution. So, it doesn't seem like that would be causing your problem, but I wanted to mention it.

If the game is getting far enough to create its config file, you could try checking that to see what resolution the game is (presumably) trying to use. The file is plain text. The name is pcconfig.txt, and the location should be something like this:

C:\Users\<user name>\AppData\Local\Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment\LEGO Batman

The exact path may vary a bit, depending on which version of Windows you're using.

If you're using a computer with built-in graphics and a separate video card, make sure that the game is using the video card.

Other than that, I'm not sure what to suggest, other than basic things like trying different video drivers.

At first i am going to thank you for taking your time and answering my question
well i am playing many other games daily and do not have problems with them, after you told me i verified the integrity of the game files and everything is just fine.
you have guessed it right, the game is not starting so i can not change the resoloution (but i might try compatibility options)
i will try finding config file too and see what can i find

Yeah, trying compatibility options wouldn't be a bad idea. You could also try having the game run as administrator. I don't think that that should be necessary, but you could give it a try.

none of them worked and i am really pissed, they should have written in the game store page that this game will not work on a new os

What do you mean by "new os"?

If you're talking about Windows 10, I'm running Win 10 Pro (version 1903) and the game seems to work fine here. I finished the game a long time ago, but I just cranked it up and spent a little while running around the Batcave with no problems at all.

If you're using Win 10 and the game is crashing, the problem is probably something on your system, but I'm not sure what else to suggest at this point. I guess another basic thing would be to shut down any other non-essential programs that you might have running (just in case there is some kind of conflict).

yes, i meant windows 10
so it works fine for you
can i ask if you are using a laptop or pc? and what is your directx and other necessary application versions (such as .net framework and etc)
thanks

Desktop.

I have no idea about .Net. I don't even see it listed in the installed programs. {shrug}

As for DirectX, the game is probably using DX9 (or maybe 10, based on some of the included files). IAC, the version that it needs should be installed with the game.

If you're unsure if the correct version of DirectX is installed, you could try going into Steam\steamapps\common\Lego Batman\DirectX and running DXSETUP.exe . That presumably should be run when you install the game, but your security software might have "blocked" it.

If you have 144 Hz screen the game won't open, you must use 60 Hz screen for the game to work. I had the same problem with my laptop because I can't change the refresh rate lower than 144 on it.

yes i have 144 hz display, so the problem is with it, i think that i read it somewhere and used a custom resoloution and put my screen refresh rate on 60hz but it did not work

Did you manage to get this to work? My laptop will only display at 144hz and I am guessing this is the main problem.

I managed to get my laptop to display 60hz to see if that would work but nope. Still get the error message on the post.

I have tried numerous compatibility options on the exe file but nothing seems to work at all.

I've even downloaded the Direct X files from Windows and installed those but still nothing works.

Gutted I can't play it, but Lego Batman 2 and 3 work fine.

@Multi, you can't go into windows display settings and set it to 60HZ?

I find that hard to believe
MultiRetroMan Apr 20, 2022 @ 2:17pm
If you go into the NVIDIA Control Panel and choose Change resolution, there's an option underneath to Customize.... so if you click that, there's another option to Create Custom Resolution, so you set the settings there and choose Test then if it works, you can save it and use it.

It is the safest way to do it without using a custom program such as CRU.
Sleazus Apr 22, 2022 @ 6:11pm
did you change the hz in windows?
did you change the hz globally in Nvidia?
did you change the hz in the profile?
I've got a 144hz monitor and the game runs
is image scaling and DSR in global nvidia settings off?
Vsync set to application setting?
Do you have .net framework 3.5 and 4.8 installed from windows features?
And I would probably try having a lower resolution. try 1080
MultiRetroMan Apr 23, 2022 @ 12:01pm
Yes to everything although, I have changed the refresh rate in
NVIDIA Control Panel
Display
Change resolution - and it changes the desktop, but this is the bizarre part.

When I choose
Display
Adjust desktop size and position, when I choose Refresh rate in that option, it keeps reverting back to 144hz.

I don't have hybrid mode enabled so there's only one graphics card to select anyway. It's odd that all the other 2 Lego Batman games work perfectly, but I guess it's down to the age of it and I will just have to accept the fact I won't be able to run it on this laptop. :(

Many, many thanks for your help and suggestions, I really appreciate the time you've taken :)
