Lone Survivor: The Director's Cut

How are you supposed to be able to play through the bottom floor and basement?
Everything's pitch black even on the highest gamma setting, there are no hiding spots and there's several monsters in almost every room. I have no idea how you're supposed to play this area.

Are you just supposed to waste all your ammo on all the enemies you encounter there, or what's the idea?

I don't have nearly enough flares or ammo to be able to sufficiently explore the basement, whether I trade in all my ammo for flares or not. I don't understand how you're supposed to play through the basement segment of the game without somehow knowing beforehand exactly where to go, so as to not waste all of your ammo and flares.

Just got done getting White ending without shooting a single shot so it is very doable from a design perspective... you may just need to step back and more calmly asses the situations down there. going off memory you could probably, if you knew where everything was, clear the basement with only a dozen or so flares and getting all extra loot there.

Also there is a bit of an optimal loop/path ive discovered which helps alot with conserving flares/bullets. from the start to the top iirc if you are okay leaving a food item behind, you can go right (north from maps perspective) to the first side room with an important item with no encounters, except in that room, where you would have to stun/kill the thinman to get it and get out.
then backtrack to beginning then take the entrance to the nearby mid hallway, if you look at the map youll see what i mean by mid, this hallway has 3 baddies which with careful stalking in the dark and timing, can stun all 3 with 1 flare. This hallway does have an easily overlooked sideroom with a pulsating... thing... if you're ok with shooting things and taking a potential hit to your mental health you can look for this door and shoot it for a little extra scene.

anyway after mid hallway (only 2 flares used so far) you are in the more vertical hallway if you look on it by the map, in game, id go left as there are no baddies over there but some coffee or something in the dark right before a chasm, then backtrack where you came into this hallway and proceed right. There will be 2 baddies, and an option to take the hallway, skip this hallway for now as its optimal to take that later, make sure you wait till you can get both with 1 flare then you can run past them, to the first door soon after (make sure flashlight is OFF)

in this room there is 2 loot, one right under thinman, think its just bullets or something, and the thing in the middle. The middle can be done actually with perfect timing without spending ammo or flares, you risk taking a hit or possibly getting away free if you're ok leaving bullets behind, otherwise kill/flare him. exit.

after that room go further right, think theres not many thinman this way, few loot items, iirc ends with a chasm where you will then backtrack to the previously mentioned hallway, again after the 2 thinman we flared earlier, flare them again and go down that hallway.

this hallway is just dark, has a mirror room right before end if you need a pitstop

next hallway it leads to at the end is where it tripped me up, back when i relied on my gun, fatman zombies. They have almost non-existant hearing or feeling in their back, but they are tanky and there is no way around them, without flares that is, flares will instantly pop them into vulnerable fatman (note this is not "killing" them and has no effect on your mental state) for the rest of the game or when that form is killed with 4 bullets shot down at it after it starts moving. in this form though you can walk over them, if timed right without damage, i prefer to pop them and get away from them during the several second delay before their vulnerable husks start moving about. also theres a trick with them where if you can kind of slowly push them back if you dodge back when they try to tummy bite you, and just run into them for a couple seconds, i use this trick to get 2-3 grouped up to save on flares, also their vision is crap but turning on flashlight can help lure in backrow fatman to the front to help group them up, tricky to learn at first but when mastered pack of fatman are laughable.
ANYWAY however you deal with them, do note the silos here do contain, bullets, a fuel can required to complete this section, jerky, and one of them will troll you with a [redacted].
once you've passed the fatman and got at least the fuel can procced to next hallway

(btw its mostly linear where to go at this point if you've been following on the map so rest is mostly just for tips for any encounters i suppose)

this hallway you have optional loot to the left guarded by a thinman and 1-2 fatman to the right on a long walk to next hallway, nothing too crazy iirc, twoards the end make sure to loot the dead end as there are no baddies i think, then backtrack just before the dead end to the next room/hallway

this one has an elevator which doesnt work yet, proceed to next room

this one has a PRAISE THE MIRRIOR, as well as a hidden shortcut which loops back all the way to the beginning, kind of, in a good position to go for the generator (now that you have everything), you can go straight to the generator hallway, which has 1 thinman...

after that its all really straight forward, get the gennie going then back track through the shortcut, and hit the elevator for the final part which ill let you figure out since you should be more than familar with the level at this point :)

but yea between running guns and flares for this section, flares are BY FAR easier imo
though keep in mind i was doing a pre-meditated no shooting run to see if its possible (very much so) and had about 40 flares when i traded in all my bullets for this part, which was plenty and overkill.

Consider recording a video for others to follow :) But i haven't checked if there are already similar ones in the hub.
