Having grown up with Cannon Fodder and Cannon Fodder 2 on the Amiga, I was a bit hesitant to buy this, bearing in mind the negative reviews about how "it wasn't good compared to the originals"

However, my friend gifted me this for my birthday and I have had a fun time with it, it has elements of the original games in it (however, remember these games were for a different time and times move on and nostalgia gives everything a rose tint!) the control system is either dual click with the mouse (left to move, right to shoot) like it used to be, or use the WASD keys to move and the mouse to shoot like some of the more modern top down shooters.

Not so sure its worth the full price but if its on sale, buy buy buy!

Cannon Fodder 3, like the previous two games, is a fun war game romp through various levels of increasing difficulty. You start off with a certain amount of troops that will travel with you through level to level mindful if you can keep them alive that is. Either point and click, use WASD, or a gamepad to control your team. Fire weapons and throw grenades. Hop into various vehicles and engage with the various details in the background.

Graphics are top down 3D, which is reminiscent of the previous first 2D games. Details are fun and colorful. Visuals are not stunning but they entirely serve the purpose to this games main groove and mojo - a colorful rendition, with touches of various details and humor, of a serious topic splattered (no pun intended) throughout.

Sound is somewhat repetive and I miss the various absurd death screams from the first game in particular - which were hilarious . Here they are more subdued but still serviceable to their goal and are fun to be sure.

I don't know why many people have not heard of this series; perhaps it has slipped under the radar for most people. I highly recommend it and hope to see a new Cannon Fodder 4 in the future with the return of the poor, enemy soldier death screams that were so comical to the first in the series. :-)

I spent a lot of time with Cannon Fodder 1 and 2 as a wee lad. The idea of playing the best parts of a military RTS without having to worry about a home base and resource management was right up my oh so narrow alley. So, naturally, when I saw Cannon Fodder 3 discounted during the Winter Sale, I scooped it. Despite a mouse/camera kink, it was exactly what I was looking for.

Direct your own little squad of troops and complete a series of campaigns with varying objectives. From securing a base, to acquiring a vehicle, you are in charge of your squad of soldiers in this top-down strategy game. I will admit I was surprised by just how much fun I had playing Cannon Fodder 3. Unlike games where you have to collect upgrades and survive waves, Cannon Fodder 3 allows you to travel around several different maps depending on the campaign you are playing, where you are given objectives to reach. The graphics are pretty basic, the music is on a loop, the dialogue is limited, and the AI seems fairly simple to beat. Overall this isn't a very challenging game, but I actually liked this game, so I'll give it a thumbs up.

Not the classic, but fun anyway. :)

I have fond memories of Cannon Fodder 1 and to some extent, 2. However my memory of their near perfection isn't quite the reality and after revisiting them on GOG.com I was sad to find out that they have some glaring flaws some 30 years after the initial release. Not taking anything away from the original titles, I love them dearly, but they're harder to enjoy today.

Cannon Fodder 3 (not from original team), also has its own flaws but as a package I actually found myself having a lot of fun. It keeps the core concept of Cannon Fodder 1 and 2 but gives it a much needed modern splash of paint.

- Fun and fluid gameplay
- Bright, colourful and detailed graphics
- Classic mouse only or keyboard and mouse controls
- Full building destruction and fun use of explosives
- Ultrawide resolution and aspect ratio support (rare for even AAA devs today)
- Built-in achievements
- Decent cutscenes and humour


- 2-3 minute loading times per mission (can be easily fixed, check guides)
- Boring and generic soundtrack
- Poor translation and voice acting
- Loose and floaty camera
- No Steam features (achievements/cloud saves etc.)
- Seemingly broken multiplayer?

Summary

Cannon Fodder 3 isn't perfect but without wearing rose tinted glass, neither were the first two. There's many 'spiritual successors' and shameless copies of Cannon Fodder and while I've given a lot of them a fair shot, I actually think the official third title gets closest to the classics, failing that possibly Tiny Troopers.

I got the game in a bundle and having paid full price I might have felt a little disappointed, but for the couple quid I paid, I'm more than happy with what I got. Get it on sale and give it a chance.

Have had hours of fun so far, well worth it.
I was a great fan of the old Amiga Cannon Fodders, this takes some getting used to, but great little game.
The first time i played it I got the 2+mins loading screens on an i7, but subsequent loading times have dropped to a few seconds.
Give it a go!

not as good as the originals but decent. Loading screen is a joke shouldn't be that long for the type of game this is. The music is really annoying. Controls are alright when it wants to swap weapons. would recommend if can get in a bundle cheap but other than that probably not worth it. find the originals imho

It feels okay, but takes some time to get acquainted with controls.

A mild recommendation for fans of the original if on sale.
