Tips and Tricks
So anybody have anything really work out for them that they'd care to share.

For example in campaign I can never assault enemy bases once theyve been mostly built. By the time I dump my brain and start to go through the shop menu loading a ship with 3 armed men half a dozen baddies have overwhelmed my robo-brain no matter how much I dig him in.

I just watched a Lets Play for CC and noticed a guy assaulting assigning a single man to a drop canister and dropping them en mass. Thats a great idea and I'm sure theres more I havent considered.

One thing I did figure out, for endless assault scenarios Ive had a lot of sucess by building a bottomless pit before my brain room. Its cheap and effective. Essentially a long shaft that drops to the very bottom of the map with no ladders, but be sure to use an open ended vertical shaft peice at the end. Baddies fall right off the map as they try and descend. Midway to high midway down in the shaft drop I have a door that leads to the brain room (and a half dozen armed guards) and if I need to get in or out I just use the grappling hook.

I've also figured out that the RPG sends a little shrapnel past the explosion point that penetrates anything. If I find the outside wall of a brain room I can usually guess and send the shrapnel bit right through the metal walls and into the brain. I also use this to stop invasions by putting metal girders where the enemy lands and digs to block them out and position a guy directly under with an RPG. As their brain tries in vain to dig through the metal part I can usually head shot him through the metal part from underneath with the shrapnel without taking out the barrier.

This...

This is....

Err...

Useful?
That drop crate spam was likely the skeleton zerg rush that the game mentions.

Most levels I just dig my brain in a good bit, set him to gold digging, and switch back to my turret to buy some bots to act as sentries. Pulse Rifles have a decent range with no/little droppage and 40 ammo per clip, so all but my snipers get those.

For defense, Sniper towers work really well for me. Make some platforms for your guys to get down. Put snipers on either side with small windows to shoot out. And solid steel in your walls so it's really hard to get through.

For assault, dig a niche somewhere some how. My standard is the three man team of light sniper, machine gun bot, and light assult rifle.

Are you having trouble moving around? Then use the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ jetpack, why don't you? Use it in short bursts to use less fuel and go faster, try not to hit the ground too hard, or you'll go kersplat.

I have the same issue assaulting fully-manned enemy bases. I can usually save my brain before the first enemies show up but then it's just a slow, credit-draining slog until my brain gets overwhelmed. The only way I've had any success is to spam with cheap units until I have enough cover to drop AA guns everywhere, and from there it's a pretty straightforward base assault.

It depends on the map but snipers and cannon fodder are my usual go-tos for securing the surface of the base. I'd be grateful if anyone else has any other, less-gamey strategies for halting the constant trickle of enemy soldiers at my brain when attacking bases.

Hmmm... well you may either keep track of imcoming enemies yourself from tiem to time, and takin enemy down yourself, but this requires some experience with actor control and manevours, or you can use concrete sprays, minefields and other similar defenses. Time conuming, but should keep your brain safe.

On some of the worst dug in assaults(lots of time and cash pass) I've noticed that the AI sets up periodic towers making it near impossible to even land your brain without it being shot out of the air. Wish there were more more pre-landing options, like extremely expensive air to ground missles to soften the area up when your rich. I've also noticed it seems to depend on the faction the AI uses as to how quickly they zerg my landing point.

Managed to slow them down on some maps, if I can live long enough to get to the store, by dropping crates around my landing site with a crab carrying a couple hundred in explosives. They make nice little mobile mines that the AI goes directly for.

Oh, so it seems I'm not alone in the know-how of how to drop more than one armed buy onto the surface?

I assumed that most people didn't know how to when I watched a few LPs and noticed that they never bothered to fill a dropship or crate with more than one person. Even the starting presets don't have more than one guy in them. I myself figured there was a way to do it, since the Ai could, and it didn't take me long to figure out. Although it's kinda pointless know, I figure I could say it here for those who are still new to the game, just in case.

If you ever needed a quick shipment of troops during hard times, or when you need to quickly prepare the LZ before the enemy takes it away from you, it's a good idea to set up a preset that has a shipment of three guys [give or take one] armed with a basic weapon, like M16s or something like that. Of course, you can't just click three guys, and then three weapons, because then only one would have them. In order to arm them all, you need to do this simple pattern: Guy, gun, guy, gun, etc etc. That way, each guy has their own weapon and are ready to drop into a hotspot. Once you have your setup, make sure you save it to the presets as well, so you don't have to go through all the trouble of forming them up again. That way, when times are tough, you don't have to waste time putting it all together again, and instead can simply select it from the preset list for fast troop deployment.

Also, sometimes when I play, I build a base that has an entry way that allows my dropships to deploy troops into my fort, allowing them to reinforce my fortress without getting shot up by enemies outside. Of course, the entry way has a door built into it to keep any hostle forces out.
But remember, some buys will be too heavy for a dropship, and it'll crash. But then you could load a crate with as many zombies as you could afford and use that to smash through the roof of the enemy base. Crates and other debris are destroyed much easier than dirt, cement, or metal.

Of course, unlike rockets and dropships, dropcrates are normally meant for one person. If more than one person is in the crate, only one will pop up, and the rest will be released after the crate breaks. In this case, keep in mind where you land, because Crates tend to hit the ground hard, burying them somewhat deep. Depending on where you land, you risk having some of your other troops stuck or crushed, so you might want to be careful with them. Also keep in mind that crates tend to be random in their drop, so keep an eye on the sky if you are dropping one into a hotzone, because it's quite possible to crush the very guy who called for backup if you don't jump out of the way fast enough.
