A guide to play play Cortex Command with friends via Internet
Thought I would share this, because I didn't find it anywhere here and all topics regarding Internet multiplayer are like: "there is no online multiplayer" or "you can with Steam RemotePlay but it's finicky and often bugs out the sound etc.". So for all of you there is a way to play CC with your friend sitting on another computer far far away. How? To be honest I found this method by accident and it is plain simple. There is one condition tho. You can only play with friends you can trust your PC with and vice-versa but hey we are not here to play with randoms but with people we know and have fun right?

So long story short: ever heard of a program called Parsec?

It is a simple remote desktop application. I think you know what this is. If not :with this you can basically control someone's computer with your own.

Steps to play Cortex Command with your friends using Parsec:

1.Register a free account.
2.Download the desktop app.
3.Add your friends
4.Connect to your friend's PC or your friends connect to your PC.
5.The Host (the person to which others connect via Parsec) starts CC and adjust the controls in menu for everyone present. One catch tho - you have to select classicKeyboard input for your friends. That means they can only control their split screen with keyboard only. Sounds uncomfortable but after a few games I have no issues at all with a proper keybind. Of course more friends means less comfort. (Because you are using only one keyboard). You can avoid that by using gamepads I dont have any though.
6.Start a scenario or mode or whatever and enjoy!!

A few notes:
-This is a remote desktop app which means you will have access to your friends display and controls
-The host can disable the usage of mouse, keyboards at will for everyone so no stupid jokes can occur.
-I heard it works for multiple people at once connecting to a single host but I haven't tried it yet.
-Best part is that only the host needs to own Cortex Command.
-You can play other games in similiar fashion.

Hope this helps for everyone still interested in this game and playing it together with your
friends :)

Remote play doesn't work for some people with bad internet while parsec does, I know this from my personal experience of bad internet (Living in britain). It's not an edge case either, most of my friends have problems with it as well.

i mean people with bad internet generally can't use parsec either
however steam remote play requires you to trick steam into thinking you're playing another game in order to use it for any games, as far as i know

wdym trick steam into thinking youre playing another game? for me steam overlay doesnt work in cortex command so i cant use remote play whatsoever. i can invite my friend from the steam freinds list but he gets "inputs disabled while host is busy" message over his screen.

basically you can play any game even non steam ones if you takes another game that has remote play like L4D2, remove the files inside its folder and replace it with the game you want, however i haven't tested it and the "host is busy" thing might be a hard stop if there's no tricks around it since cortex command is just not compatible with the steam overlay
i was just saying that using remote play on cortex command is overly complicated anyway, might as well using parsec which works fine with it
although contrary to the guy i responded to, in my experience remote play was less internet hungry but i might be wrong

the reason i like remote play over parsec is because it simulates a controller so my friend can use his own while i play on keyboard, as i do not own a controller. this is a new feature and works with other games so we wanted to try cortex. sadly you cannot open remote play tab outside of the game overlay as its own application window :steamsad:

as far as i know the controller in parsec, if it doesn't you got a problem you need to fix

Steam overlay is not opening with this gamme no matter what I do, I even removed cache from the overlay, reset the game configs, and changed the overlay keybind to another and still isnt showing, how am I exopected to use Steam Remote play without an usable steam overlay?

0% the overlay doesnt show up, and I dont know what to do to get it working. My friend gets stuck in a message (the host is busy, please wait) while the game gets streamed correctly to him

then i guess parsec is your only solution
