The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

Start Up Issue - What's Going ON?
Each time I start Witcher it tells me performing 1st time setup and jumps to installing step 2 Microsoft net.framework.

Does it every time.

I've given the launcher and the witcher .exe admin rights as I figured it couldn't install net.framework.

Annoying as hell as it takes about 3 minutes to get thru the process.

Microsoft net framework vs 4 is installed already and has been for a long while.

Any ideas?

It happened to me but the game would still start. I dont know what happened but it just stopped coming up after 5ish start ups.

Mine stops after Microsoft RC package...won't do a damn thing. Tried giving admin rights. Giving exceptions in Microsoft Security essentials...nada.

First goto your Witcher 2 folder:

..\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\common\the witcher 2\redist

then run the 3 setup files:

vcredist_x86.exe
dotNetFx40_Full_x86_x64.exe
..\DirectX\DXSETUP.exe

if any one one of these fail to install you need to figure out why before continuing below.

Check the following key with the Registry editor:

if you have Windows 64-bit goto:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Valve\Steam\Apps\20920

if you have Windows 32-bit goto:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Valve\Steam\Apps\20920

if all three setup programs above installed with out errors thru steam setup, the following values should be in the right pane of the registry editor:

DirectX = 1
dotNetFx40 = 1
vcredist = 1

if one of the following keys are missing, just add it by

right clicking in the right pane and select new -> DWORD (32-bit) Value
name the value and hit return
double click on the new value you just named an enter 1 for the value data
click OK

run the game to see if it worked

Got the same problem with the .NET installs everytime when I try to play the game, but it still starts/plays fortunately.

Everytime I run the installer...it says I have a same/newer version.

if you run any of the installers and they do not end with an error you will need to add it's value to the registry so it tells steam not to run that installer on game startup.

Running LarryV's process I got an error with vdredist - wouldn't install because I had a newer version of Visual C++ 2010. Didn't install it.

Had to repair my installation of net framework 4.0

DX 9.0c installed. I wish the steam installation would check to see if DX9.0c was already installed - it doesn't. Just runs the DXSETUP installer. I've got about 6 versions of DX9.0c showing in control panel as well as DX11.

Anwyay LarryV's process seems to have worked and Witcher runs fine. Maybe.
